I guess that's a good and bad thing for the consumers. The good thing is that the people who bought the 2013 are going to be able to call their car brand new for another year. The bad thing about it is that people who might have wanted to wait for 2014 to see what's changed are going to be disappointed that they waited this long instead of just getting the 2013 earlier.
I, for one, am probably going to get the 2013 at this point.
Planning on ordering one late May or early June, and even if things do change by then, I don't think I could wait until october to get my hands on a 2014.
I'm mainly just waiting for Scion to offer the option for fog lights and a true GPS navigation with XM radio. But there is a good chance they'll have a release series for next year which may have HID's. But it'll most likely not be in a color I want.

You have to have internet access before you can use it anyway. You use the internet access from your iPhone/Android to use it. All it does is allow you to listen to internet radio and it reads back your facebook/twitter feed out loud (which is really annoying BTW). It beefs up your navigation system's ability to find restaurants and other POI's, too. I'm a little disappointed that it won't come on the late '13 MY, but then again I hate the stock head unit so I'll probably just upgrade to a Pioneer HU with Aha.

Whatever upgrades the '14 spec has, I expect Toyo/Scion Subaru to make available for '13 models through warranty or at least some kind of upgrade package.

They could also update the current BRZ navigation to have AHA.

Why? I have never heard of another manufacturer doing this?

Being a first gen car is kinda like being in a beta test, and not all the complete or working features are there for first time users. As 1st party buyers, I expect toyota and subaru to take care of their customers and improve the vehicle quality (buyers program) and address concerns (warranty program).

I mean things like a better nav system, upgraded door switches, underbody improvements.

Also, no release series this year, nor will there be any changes made to the 2013 models, at least as far as the FR-S goes.
Not even a new rim style, or bigger wheels, or HIDs, or any upgrades whatsoever.
As far as differences go, the only difference between the 2013 and 2014 models will be just the year number on the official papers.
I spoke to the sales manager at the dealership I bought my car from and told him about the rumors of a Release Series. He seemed surprised so he called one of his contacts at Scion Canada who told him right there that there is going to be a Release Series to coincide with the 10th anniversary of Scion and it will be packed full of goodness. So much so that I am considering trading up for one. It should be on sale around September/October.

Why are you considering trading up? What goodies did he mention?

The HIDs from the Toyota GT86, TRD wheels from the Celebrity Pro racer as well as the bigger air intake, lowering springs, TRD exhaust, and the BRZ/Gt86 climate controls. Also, the HIDs would be considered a release series exclusive part so I wouldn't be able to order them because they can only order by VIN like all the other release series parts.

Edit: forgot to mention keyless entry and push start

Of course whether I go for one or not depends on how much the individual parts sell for compared to the price of the release series.

From a Scion development engineer, confirmed HIDs and HVAC. No mention of any of the other features, but it is not finalized yet. It will also be silver apparently, because its the worst selling color lol

For reference, the latest release series tC added a body kit, TRD exhaust, TRD lowering springs, and other minor misc items for an added 3k in MSRP. That's why I don't see the release series actually adding any of the TRD parts with the exception of the lower springs. Otherwise, they're pushing the price of the car to about 4k or more above a standard FRS, which by then would be out of the price range for their brand target demographic

I heard it will not be Argento though. It's supposed to be a special premium silver color. If anyone from scion is listening, the M6 gran coupe matte silver would be a great option!
