If its safe to assume that we'll see 215/45R17 tires, then who wants to guess what the low spec will have? 215/60R16? I can see Michelin...Primacy HP's on that photo leak? Guess my room for concern would be which tire/size will carry a better (read: longer) mileage warranty. I'm sure the HP's will be fine as an OEM, but 45k miles leaves much to be desired on my behalf.

looks good, and those aren't even the best photos! not really understanding the price differential, but I suppose there needs to be something that sets these two cars apart.

You gotta understand how print publications work, and press shots work.

Magazines usually require about a month lead time typically from final copy to mass printing. Which means they got these images at least a month or two prior. Studio shots of production cars can be taken months before an official unveiling. Renderings are often used along with studio photos for official photos.

It's very typical for print magazines get images of the cars a month or two they're unveiled. This is standard practice so that the issue that goes on newsstands coincides with the car shows/press unveilings. If say Car & Driver got the official images of the BRZ at the Tokyo Motor show, that'd take an additional 1-2 months to publish that in a magazine, and by then it'd be too late. Print is a totally different animal than online. They don't take press assets then turn them around in a couple days or a week. They get assets, editor writes it, copy editor looks at it, layout gets set (along with pagination), final proof, then it goes to the printer. It's a lengthy process, which is why mags get assets way ahead of time.

If this R&T issue was supposed to hit newstands at or around the time of Tokyo Auto show, then this pic is likely legit, whether it's a studio or rendering.
im not saying that the article or picture isn't legit and fake...im sure its an official render...im saying that the white car used in the article is not an actual photo of the car. It shows only two views which are identical quarter shots of images we have seen before. The shots screams RENDER rather SLR.

Why not use a front view, or top view, or close in on the grill, or fender or brake set up.

If road and track was getting assets well before others, they would have been given more profound information, images, ect. Unfortunately they are in the same boat like everyone else, giving the same sorts of information and the same stock image that even iv been given nearly 2 months ago.

Iv worked with magazines before, and its VERY hard to get exclusive stuff, so we make due with what we have.

If R&T had the official images they probably would have official info as well. There's no specs in the article that haven't been unveiled already (and the height is flat out wrong). Makes me think the images are probably not the real deal.

That's the thing, I don't think this is necessarily an exclusive to R&T. Since this issue is supposed to hit newstands when Tokyo Motor Show is already underway (read the blurb and it talks about TMS as already going on), it looks like the issue got out early, rather than Subaru giving them exclusivity.

It was probably provided by Subaru to the major car mags as part of the publicity package. I doubt they had a physical, non-camo'd car in California for R&T to shoot at the press event a few months ago.

Not very likely. If the 17's come with 215/45R17, then the 16's will either have 215/50R16 or 205/55R16.

disagree. it's all to a car manufactures benefit to have early press cars available for studio shoots to help generate exposure and interest in the product. small part of the marketing strategy.
