No, it's a Subaru regardless of what it says on the back.

Because Subaru engineered and built it? The only Toyota in this car is the key fob, the HPFP, the direct injection system, and the design of the body panels. I believe other every last nut and bolt is Subaru.

It's a Subaru from start to finish.

Word to the wise... you better go back and read Tetsuya Tada's own words concerning the development and building of the GT86 before you start spouting off such drivel.

When I'm asked: "What is it?"

I just say: "I don't really know, nobody does."

Link? I would like to refresh and read more on that.

However, I was talking about construction. Just because a Toyota person said "do exactly this", doesn't change the fact that the part in question was still built/manufactured by a company other than the one that would normally be responding to the order. Toyota has their own engineers, Subaru has theirs. If Toyota requested a cake by Gordon Ramsey and Martha Stewart respectively, the cakes would be made to order but still unique.

Read this and you tell me if your "cake analogy" still fits.

Seems like that is just getting into semantics. Ultimately this car represents both companies because if either one was not involved, the frs brz 86 would not exist.

I have no difficulty saying my car is a Scion. I became calloused to the name on my car when I owned two Miata's.

Agreed. It's hard to define who creates what these days anyway. My company constantly acquires new products and technologies, whether through acquisitions or partnerships, and regardless whether we absorb their manufacturing site or still have them produce it, the end product is still rebranded as our own and is perceived that way. In addition, you have to account for parts that are supplied from third parties. Honestly, how many components in our cars do you think are actually designed and manufactured at Fuji Heavy Industries? A good number come from suppliers we've probably never heard of and then rebranded as Subaru on the end product. Easiest analogy is Apple. Why aren't our phones called the Foxconn iPhones because isn't that where its manufactured? An end product is the result of multiple resources from multiple sites. What ends up on the final product is just a matter of who is supplying the final product to the customer as a business.
