Anyone have any info on TRD releasing this intake to the public? - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

First seen on the Toyota Pro/Celebrity Racing FR-S, I was just wondering if anyone knew if this would be available for purchase and if so when.

The thing with both STI and TRD parts is that they should be purely cosmetic, because while their stuff looks cool, they offer little to no gains.

But I think some people prefer OEM parts for warranty fears... even though the fears, in themselves, are unwarranted.

I had TRD intake and exhaust on my old tC. It felt slightly quicker with them on, but driving it back to back with a stock tC, the stock one felt noticeably slower.

Same kind of concept with computers, you don't really notice when they do things marginally faster, but you ALWAYS notice when they're slower.

Plus I wanted to keep my warranty and not be hassled by smog/dealer/service guys, and not everyone wants an earth-shatteringly loud, raspy, cat-less, muffler-less exhaust sound.

Lastly, those flat bottom tips on the TRD exhaust look pretty damn clean and it sounds great.

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, I think the quad tip TRD exhaust(with the rear bumper spoiler) is the meanest looking one out there. I would get it but the gains just don't seem to justify the price.

I would bet it's an off the shelf airbox from a bigger car/truck in the Toyota line with a TRD stamp on it selling for three times as much.

I'm going to put a TRD logo on my toilet paper and put it up in the For Sale section for exhaust. It will sell because TRD.

That's a huge air box! Looks amazing. Makes me wonder how much horse power would it gain. Maf sensor is placed near the tb, meaning it should read better.

I want one!

I don't care. I just think it's funny people fall for the true troll, TRD. Granted a few of their things cosmetically look great, they can easily be copied and sold for their true price and not marked up 100%. I'd be impressed if TRD was actually competitive but they aren't.

If this comes at a reasonable price, this will probably be the best intake imo. Cold air from stock location, straight pipe to the TB, and a larger panel filter. We've already seen stock sized aftermarket panels make ~5whp. I'd imagine bigger = better. Plus it deletes the noise maker and the huge resonators.

There are many setups that already do this. It will be no different and will cost 2X more. Many tests have already proved drop-ins and CAI's don't have much of a difference. Certain intakes actually mess with AFR and can make your car run much leaner.

Best bang for the buck, drop in filter and a Perrin inlet.

I'm not keen on the idea of having to pawn one of my testicles so I can finance a larger stock airbox with a TRD badge on it.
