Installed the Perrin CAI today. Applied the 92 octane tunes for the Perrin CAI and tried the All Headers this time. Base, then timing in, then fuel in, and fuel out, and immobilizer (gotta have this one). Normally timing in works well for me, but this time, meh. Strange as I am running 93 in the tank right now. I haven't tried fuel in, but I'm guessing that will suck (will still try it though). I drove with fuel out and the car seemed really nice. I tried base, and honestly, I think it's better for my vehicle than fuel out. The car has been transformed with the combination of test pipe+cai+tune. I only tested for an hour, and well, now that I have my car done for this year (except maybe headers and overpipe if $$$ funds fall from the sky) I'll have more time to play.

Enjoy! I know I will. Questions, see my mods list.

Oh, and BTW, I continually lose traction in first gear now.

Last night, MY BRZ buddy (Black BRZ local to me) and I did extensive testing with the various tunes on my vehicle. We had a lot of fun and both learned quite a bit as well. Needless to say, Jack is sending out a similar setup for my buddy and we'll be installing it next weekend. Great customer service again Jack. We appreciate it!

Ah. The package has arrived and we're prepping for a Black BRZ install tomorrow. Will be fun. I also noticed that the quality of 93 gas around here varies a bit. On Shell 93 with my setup, Base works best. However, with Mobil, I have to do Timing +. Odd, but that's what Jack has been saying all this time. Good think I have a Flux2 - good for flipping maps when needed. : )

what areas can you mess with at your finger tips with the flux? can you increase timing? is unichip itself adaptable depending where you live?

You can do whatever you want via the Flux just as long as you have a map loaded in one of five banks. And yes it is adaptable per climate zone.

Answers my question for the waiting. Going to get Perrin Catback first then tune, and later Perrin complete intake to reach optimal.

Cali here, currently on Fuel Standard/Timing Out 92 Octane map. The standard fuel/standard timing it came with was giving me some rpm dips but with timing- it seems to be just right. I feel like Cali 91 octane is pretty shitty so have to go with the -. Need some more time to experiment but so far it seems good.

To know whether im running lean or rich or just right I would need an OBDII adapter and read the ratios right? I'm assuming running too lean or rich wouldn't set off a CEL, is there a way to know if I'm in one or the other without logs? (rpm dips, loss of power, rough idle, etc?).

injen+all cat B for reference.

That's a good question...I have the torque app and it shows AFR...

Jack, If I start my car and go full throttle can I use that as a guideline on what tune is best for my car? Is there a number I'm looking for?

Stoichiometrically 14.7 is the ideal AFR. It's a dynamic thing so can get tricky I assume.

At idle or under load?
14.7 seems a bit too lean at WOT

I thought you need a Wideband sensor to accurately read AFR. Not sure I would go by what what OBDII is telling you.

As far as map selection is concerned, I was talking to Jack the other day and the strategy he suggested for us poor CA folks was to start with the 92 Standard map, and then add fuel, rather then pull timing. That should unsure most performance.

If you don't like that, then pull timing.

Maybe Jack can comment on the best strategy, but that's what I understood from him.

^ Yeah you want to read through an O2 wideband but the intake manifold/fuel load calculation should be in the ballpark.

Wow... What a difference!!!

I finally decided to play with my maps. I'd been pretty reasonably happy with the standard map that came with the Unichip when I installed it so I didn't really feel the need, but the car still exhibited a lot of the unrefined qualities of the stock tune. I say that, because now that I'm running the Premium Fuel*All Drop In*Fuel Standard*Timing + map,the car is so subtle and refined. It's like a whole different car. There's no jerkiness in the power delivery, and the throttle responds to small changes in input and transitions so smoothly.

I'd always felt that the one thing that let the 86 down was how unrefined the throttle response and power delivery was. It always felt like I was using a sledge hammer to tap in finishing nails. The default map did "feel" faster, but tended to buck and jerk with throttle transition. But my head knows the difference and the car is faster in this new map.

I can't believe the difference between the two... and the default map was a huge improvement over the stock mapping. Anyone who's on the fence about buying this product, it's well worth the investment, especially if you can catch it on sale.

My only regret is that I didn't try swapping the maps out sooner... I feel I missed out on enjoying the driving experience even more. I'm installing an Invidia cat-back shortly so I'll be swapping out the maps again and hopefully will find something that responds just as well. I may actually try the Premium Fuel*All Drop In*Fuel -* Timing + map just for grins and giggles, but I'm very happy with how this current map is working now.

Finally got to gauge my car against a friend's. Ever since installing the Unichip, I've always wondered if it did make any extra power. My car is 100% stock except for the Unichip. My friend's car has an HKS hybrid drop-in filter which made 5hp to the wheels when ft86speedfactory dynoed it. Otherwise, our cars are identical. Stock tires, stock rims, same mileage, both M/T.

We did about three runs, all rolling starts in first gear. And in each one, my car came out ahead, and still gaining, and this is with me allowing him to accelerate first needless to say, Jack has an order coming his way The map I used in the runs was 92 octane Fuel Out, Timing In, running 100RON octane fuel.

My Milltek exhaust and Borla headers should arrive next month, and I'll be doing dyno runs before and after with the stock tune, and lastly with the Unichip. Will keep you guys posted!
