Used to be with my '69 Camaro, BITD, the four-speed had to be put in reverse when parking and "remote start" was nonexistent at least as far as I knew.

If the above has not 'sunken in" to our brains allow me to add an excerpt from the last paragraph of the news release:

"it only affects Subaru vehicles that are equipped with the remote starter accessory kits, meaning that OEM keyless entry fobs integrated on the vehicle key don’t apply. Subaru has said that the defect doesn’t pose a risk while driving, so the chances of getting an accident due to the glitch are extremely low.
[via Reuters]"

So STOP dropping those keyfobs and go back in the house.

I saw that, I was like "what the hell does this have to do with my BRZ?"

Can a limited 6mt start itself? If the car also engaged the clutch, yes.

Just to be clear:
"the recall affects some Legacy and Outback cars from 2010 through 2013, Impreza sedans from 2012 and 2013, and XV Crosstrek crossovers from 2013", It cannot at least in this specific recall case.

Not really. Autos are not intended to be left in gear. It is usually put in what is called "PARK". There ARE numbskulls that don't understand these things however and crashes do occur. I recall that one of the famous Three Stooges put the automatic transmission in "R' mode. He thought it was "Right straight ahead".
