All pumps are being replaced with the same part, so I'd recommend against it as it won't fix anything and is a waste of time and money for both you and the dealership. It's unlikely anything will really be done until the next model years roll out, if anything at all. Many other DI cars (and pretty much every other Toyota that has this D4-S or sister system in it) make this same noise. Toyobaru owners are the only ones who have their panties in a bunch over it.

I've been filling up my FR-S with Shell V-Power ever since I bought it in January... No abnormal noises up to about 2500 miles UNTIL....

This past weekend I was headed out with friends and running with about a gallon of gas and the Shell station was out of the way to go. Instead I stopped at a Mapco and used their 93o gas as a replacement . GUESS WHAT?!?! Yeah.. You guessed it... CHIRPS! It freaked me the hell out as it sounded like the P.O.S. car I just sold.

Needless to say when I fill up again with my desired Shell V-Power gas I'll check back with this thread and let you guys know what happens. I'm crossing my fingers as to this is what fixes the problem. Hopefully it isn't the summer blend of gas they are starting to roll out with the current warmer temperatures by me.

Initially I wasn't part of the different gas crowd, but since I've been using She'll 91 for air a month now I haven't heard the chirp.

Toyota's negotiating my Good Will Comp as we speak regarding this. I've heard rumors between the techs and corp that they maybe just trying to develop a noise suppressor to cover the part instead of replacing all of the loud pumps.

Hate to tell you, but Shell V-Power doesn't do anything unless it has no ethanol in it. I've tried it 4 different times and had crickets all 4 times and it is 93 octane. The only time I don't hear crickets are random occurrences or it is colder outside. I've even heard them while it is 35-40 degrees. I've given up on it and just plan on making my car louder than the fuel pump.

Unless Toyota/Subaru create a new fuel pump or suppress the noise, the only fix is ethanol free gas and not everyone has that available.

Hey guys,

why don't we get a D.I.Y to make a box to supress the sound. maybe custom cutouts with sound dampening material. I don't have exp making this stuff nor how effective it would be but im sure the audio guys would know.

ideas?

Yep..heard mine at about 1300 miles. Dealer says no fix yet, only TSB. Check back in about a month or so to see if there's a new pump for the fix. Otherwise, the new replacement will do the same thing.

I'd like a reason, since the pump is small and could be wrapped with sound deadening material....

I think they should just redesign the pump.... doesn't take an engineer to make that decision
