No ones bragging here. All the poster was saying is that an automatic was pointless to buy with a car like this. I'm certainly not trying to be a jerk, it was just unfare that his post went unsupported, when if fact he was correct.

I can agree to a point. My FR-S is a manual and I love it. If you wanted to give me a Ferrari with an automatic I'd love that too.

I guess I should have used to word "versatility" rather than "convenience".
You are aware that people track their cars and also daily drive them, right?
Who are you to tell me my reasoning as to why I bought my car? I can "experience" an AT just as much as I can "experience" a manual. As long as I'm flyin' though corners and having fun, I could care less if I'm pushing a clutch or not.
If you honestly think you're better than anyone else based on what transmission you drive, you must be desperately seeking some sort of false sense of accomplishment.
I wish you the best of luck in life with that mentality.

I do not think I am better than anyone, never have. This was never about being better than anyone because of the transmission. I've said what I had to, and I really don't want to argue with fellow memebers here, the poster got a good bashing that he did not deserve.
Im out of it

This thread in a nutshell:

For realsies, my point wasn't to be a huge **** to auto owners. It was post about how eventually there are going to be a lot of non-enthusiast owners. I'm totes okay with seeings tons of FRS/BRZ around town, but when they are owned by a bunch of teenage girls who text and drive and boring old men with their midlife crisis who have no interest in driving but wanted a sporty looking car... That is going to suck.

Am I saying that you can't be an enthusiast if you drive an auto? No. (But you really do miss out on a lot of the fun! hahaha) am I saying that not having an automatic option would have weeded out the non-enthusiasts? Yes.

I assumed by agreeing with said poster, you were agreeing with his view that MT drivers are somehow superior to everyone else. If that's not the case, I apologize, and although I completely disagree with everything you've said, I respect your opinion.

Never once did I say that. I believe you are thinking about someone else.

Pilots and airplane owners are generally a much more reasonable crowd than drivers of sub-30k import sports cars. Or was it sporty cars?
Just like MT "biases" it always comes from the folks that only fly taildraggers, so yea, you pretty much nailed the group. I've been heavily involved in the Experimental area in the past (not so much these days) so its always the "enthusiast" level where the debate comes up.

Maybe so, but a real pilot would never disparage another aviator. Much more maturity and comraderie amongst pilots than opinionated car owners trying to make themselves feel special because they drive a certain brand, or a manual, or whatever. The reality is that the best drivers, especailly real enthusiasts, wouldn't criticize other drivers based on choices and they would almost certainly be willing to help teach others how to improve their driving skill. Shifting the gears isn't, in and of itself, a measure of driving skill.

There are plenty of "non-enthusiasts" that drive manual..
Honestly, who cares if fellow 86 drivers are enthusiasts or not. Whether it's MT or AT, whether they track it, daily, or weekend drive it, whether it's bone stock or modded beyond recognition.
As long as they enjoy the car they're driving, I'm happy for them.
