Sunshine Down Under…

For the guys in AUS, I got a nice email this morning from Dynomotive after they finished dyno tuning their first FT86 with our kit… “I am also pleased to say we managed to get 17% more (top end) power out of the 86 and 18% (bottom end) torque.”

They also ordered stock… another happy customer. If you’re in that area, give Paul a call… http://www.dynomotive.com.au

Cheers

So, I figure I would give my review on this even though nobody cares or asked for it..

Initially I liked how easy it was to install but was disappointed with the performance gain on the ol' butt dyno. That is until I found the correct map. I tried out the Fuel - Timing + map and holy shasta this car became a completely different animal. Now I am by no means saying the car is fast now but at least it isn't such a poosy.

Seriously every part of the car changed: the car is smoother and has less vibration, the jerkiness is almost gone, the fuel pump no longer sounds like a high pitched time bomb, the throttle response is almost instant now like I have it in permanent sport mode, and even the throatiness of the intake sounds better. I would have never thought that one map change would make this car feel so much better until it actually happened. I seriously removed the standard maps and have it running with this in Map 0 and the Immobilizer in Map 1.

I picked the Unichip because Jack seemed like a cool guy and some other tuners were ****s and though that they were gods. Now I am glad I picked it because I never would have though that 400 bucks would make this much impact on the car. I feel like I just got a new car.

what other mods have you done?

also,... are you saying that this some how is responsible for unchirping your fuel pump... could this just be a coincidence ... mine only chirps,... 90% of the time...

Yeah there's no way the UniChip changed the physical orientation of the plunger stopper inside the high pressure fuel pump in his car to make it stop aerating e10 gas when the engine is idling nice and hot; which is what produces the chirping. More than likely he filled up with better gas with less ethanol in it or he just didn't get the pump hot enough to start chirping again. Ambient air temps also play a role in the chirp; the colder it is outside, the less likely the pump will chirp. The only thing to truly fix the chip for good is to replace the pump with the updated version. Even that sometimes doesn't fix it.

Anyways, that's the kind of review I like to hear. It's making my decision much harder. The first UniChip reviews I read were underwhelming more than likely because the users weren't loading and running the more agressive fuel- timing+ maps for their respective mods and higher octane.

It won't take much convincing after Jack releases the VMS intake map family sometime in the not so distant future. Hopefully this week @Unichip Jack?

I can't wait for the AEM tunes to be released. I plan to test the different tunes as well. I played a little with the Injen tunes (running the standard map/fuel - and timing +) and they have worked well but I suspect the AEM map will be better for my AEM intake.

My pump does chirp really loud all the time and I use the same fuel station every time with 10% ethanol. I cannot guarantee that it solved the problem but it seems to sound better as of the last two days. This could be coincidence but it could also have something to do with leaning the fuel mixture out; I really have no clue. My hopes are the tune messing with fuel have had an effect on the pump, but again, like ATL BRZ said, the tune shouldn't have an effect on the plunger making a seal inside the pump. I still have a pump on order at Subaru and will replace it when the part arrives.

The pump part aside, being as I have only tested it for two days, the car feels like a real car now. I still do hope that Jack releases more aggressive maps and e85 soon, enough is never enough.

BTW: Mods are Perrin CAI intake and tube. My SRT exhaust was removed before performing this mod. With intake and tune the car no doubt has more umph than with the exhaust alone.

Ughh I ordered a USB->Unichip cable on Monday but still no shipping confirmation. Hopefully it'll come by the weekend so I have time to play with it.

side question: do you guys remove the unichip before taking it in to dealer for basic services like oil changes?

I just got an oil change yesterday...They didn't even bring it up. The guy asked me what I had planned for mods lol ....now not every dealer might be that cool.

I will make sure to take mine out. I would rather take the time to reconnect everything instead of being told I fucked my warranty.

Catching up

ATLBRZ… probably next week… the car with the Vigilant CAI intake is tied up with some another project this week.

JouMaSeHoes… my pleasure

Swift996 & jwjknorr… AEM is right after that.

lOaded… sorry for the back log… production is working as quickly as possible but has been slammed. The cable should be built and shipped tomorrow.

Cheers
