Subaruwrxfan's videos, particularly the long video overview of his new car gave me a chance to check it out virtually.

I like it so much, I bought a WR Blue Limited myself!

Keep up the good work with the videos!
Hearing posts like this always make my day. I'm glad I helped you make your decision! Now if only Subaru would give me a little kickback for all of the BRZs I've helped sell!

I do not think he was riding the clutch. I was taught this as well (to leave your foot on the dead pedal when not shifting).

At the op: I still do not quite get how you down shift and rev match. I typically just downshift, give gas, and ease of the clutch as smooth as I can. Yea, it might wear down the clutch a little, but for me, it's easier to do this. Now, when I'm trying to pass someone and I down shift, well, that's a different story
Thanks yeah, he's not the first person to think I was riding the clutch, but yeah my foot is resting on the dead pedal, not on the clutch. I even mention in the video not to rest your foot on the clutch.

nice video. i for one can't drive the car without heel-toeing. revmatching is essential to being smooth and getting the most life out of your wear and tear items.

got anything planned for the car?

Right it was just a little constructive criticism I had as for a good 4 minutes the foot never left the clutch at the beginning of the dual camera angles. I saw later on you went to the dead pedal. Was just something I noticed, still an awesome video and awesome of you to take time out of your day to explain it this to people. Your videos are always a watch from me. Especially love the video of you and your friends with the high end cars.

Yeah, I just need to practice my heel-toeing more so that I'm comfortable doing it. I do have some stuff planned for the car, just a few basic things for now. Waiting for the weather to warm up a little before I start doing the mods.

Oh gotcha, yeah in the first few minutes since I was playing with the shifter and showing catch points I was on the clutch a lot. Glad you enjoy the videos! The high end cars will come back out to play once the weather warms up!

You seriously have to use the e-brake. No mechanic worth his salt will tell you NOT to use it for parking. Your tranny is meant to go one way and if you force a load on it that goes the other way, essentially you are putting it in a position that it wasn't really design to do: lock your car in position. That's what brakes and e-brakes are for. Just because you've been doing it wrong for years, doesn't make it right. Does it mean your tranny will fail immediately? No, but I strongly advise against telling the world that it's ok not to use your E-brake when parking.

In fact, when I park, I stop, pull e-brake, release normal brake pedal, let car rest against e-brake, then release clutch. Your e-brake is designed to hold the car, your tranny, not really but can substitute in a pinch.

You are not going to cause tranny damage by parking in gear, regardless of what gear you put it in.

If something nudges the car hard enough, the engine can rotate the opposite direction without harm as well.

Not trying to argue with you, but how does an automatic transmission work in regards to parking? Furthermore, what if it rains outside and the temperature is below freezing and you have your e-brake engaged? Wouldn't that be bad for the e-brake?

And lastly, e-brake is designed to stop the car from rolling, eh? Tell that to GM who told me my e-brake in my Cobalt SS was NOT designed to stop the car from rolling when parked. They told me I was suppose to leave it in gear and pull the e-brake

Also, I have a 16 year old Toyota Tacoma that has been parked for 16 years in gear without the e-brake. Only 130,000+ miles on it, but the transmission seems to work just as good as the day I got it. On a leveled surface, I personally see no need to use the e-brake if the car is in gear. However, if the vehicle is on an incline, well that's a different story. As I said before, when I park on hills, I myself, would recommend leaving the car in gear and the e-brake pulled, along with the wheel being turned towards/away from the curb, depending on which direction you're facing.

Automatic transmissions should also use the e-brake. See how P works on an auto tranny:

http://auto.howstuffworks.com/automa...smission11.htm

Everytime you let the car roll and that little distance that the car travels to lock the teeth, you are essentially straining the part a little. The way I look at it, do you want to eventually have to replace that or your drum / rear brakes (which your e-brake actuates)?

I choose rear drums (on my car) any day - simply because it's easier and cheaper. Also, lack of use of the e-brake over time will cause it to seize and one day if you do want to use it, it will either not pull or worse, pull but fail to release!

So the way I park an auto tranny is:
1- Stop the car using normal brakes
2- Pop the car in neutral
3- Pull e-brake
4- Release brakes, let car come to a stop
5- Put car in P

This exercises your E-brake cable and also has the advantage of a second safety layer if your e-brake ever fails. Plus you'd know about it whereas not using the e-brake means you don't know if it will work until you need it and use it.

As for manny cars (manual trannys), I look at it the same way. I'd rather have my gears stress and wear out due to driving than parking.

We're way off topic but it's something I have to dispel for most drivers out there.

WRXFan: Sorry for hijacking the thread.

Lookin fancy, did you look and see if any suppliers provide clear led side markers as opposed to the amber ones? We're you able to find the clear markers for under $100? Whenever I see them, they always are way more expensive that I think they should be worth. No arguing that they look great though.

@Carson Toyota sells them for $99 plus shipping (around $5) that's your best bet. Plus Luis has exceptional customer service.

Yeah I picked mine up from Carson Toyota, seemed like the best price by a few bucks. Wasn't really interested in any LEDs, I think it looks ok with the orange bulbs, I just wanted to get rid of the orange plastic. They are pricey, it kinda sucks, but can't really do anything about it. I finally gave in and paid it, haha.
