The BRZ STI has no balls for a reason

With forced induction from the factory, this car would be a threat to WRX STI pricing. If this car had the same power as a WRX STI from the factory, people would second guess buying the flagship WRX STI. I think that Subaru is just trying to keep this car at the lowest price point possible and they’re staying away from WRX STI power numbers. So with the BRZ STI, Subaru will give us all the upgrades they can and then just leave it to us to do the engine swaps or whatever we want to do to achieve more power. And here in Australia, the WRX STI is sold as high as $68,000-74,000.00….. So it’s in our best interest (In Australia) that the BRZ STI does not come standard with a turbo.
I just wish that Subaru would sell the BRZ STI with a low output turbo setup. And price the BRZ STI in between the WRX and the WRX STI.

Then why even pursue an STI version of the BRZ? Also, why would Subaru care if it cut into their WRX STI sales (which I doubt, two completely different cars)? Sales are sales right?

There will probably be a factory turbo charger option on the BRZ at some point.

It just seems to me that the more power they give the BRZ STI, the harder it will be for Subaru to justify their $68,000 WRX STI price tag. They are different cars but power numbers remain the same. If both cars had 305hp, everyone would just buy the BRZ STI. But sales are sales and I guess it would still be a win win for Subaru.

It is also AWD vs RWD and sedan vs coupe.

The exchange rate is almost dead even mate. We're getting shafted over here.

Exchange rate is almost 1:1 so err... maybe if one was to buy a brand new wrx sti with every single dealer add on with every single add on, dynotune, engine rebuild etc....

I looked at few dealer websites in Melbourne and they all list wrx sti around 30,000 which jives with MSRP.

I do recall reading something about import tax on certain models that gets added... but still... maybe for vehicles that CAN be imported but are not sold at dealerships?! I dont know.

One who seeks will find a subie at a reasonable price.

I wish I could find a new WRX STI in this country for 30K lol. Dude a new standard WRX starts out at +$40,000

I agree. I've been fearing this as well. I can picture the BRZ with a $30k+ price tag for some reason.

It seems as though Subaru may push this car to be competitive with the 370Z, by offering a rwd sports coupe they may be able to slap that price on the car for that very reason. The RX-8 and Miata have also crept up into that price range. I can see the BRZ being a more "fine tuned" version as compared to the FT-86/FRS - offering more little do-dads here and there. If they didn't it seems as though that Subaru and Toyota would be trying to sell the exact same car - I don't think they'll do it.

I think the Toyota/Scion will be cheaper. But I too fear that the Subaru version will be more expensive than we originally thought.

1. if you have a family with one or two kids, with one car only, you would choose the impreza
2. if you live somewhere with long and snowy winters, you would choose AWD instead of RWD

the BRZ is only a typical second or third car, or a car for a single.

Factory turbo!?!... BRZ STI?!!?...same power output as the WRX STI?!?

The BRZ is not going to be anywhere near the price of a WRX STI and the BRZ STI is just a concept.

I could see a BRZ STi version with say 250hp, 210ft lbs - it wouldn't step on big brother's 305+hp shoes, but would be a healthy dose over the base model engine.
