I used to only hear this when seats were down so didnt run to the dealership first time it happened. After leaky tail light, added trunk popping to list of warranty issues for dealership to address. Sure enough they made it worse... Now I can hear it with seats up or down. I'm gonna have to try and handle this myself.

Popping noise from rear
Popping noise from the rear when the car flexes.
Spray some white lithium grease on the metal parts circled in red circles above. I sprayed enough so that the grease covers all around the metal. Top, bottom, back, and front. I first tried WD-40 and it got rid of the popping noise, but I still could hear some rubbing noise. I went ahead and bought white lithium grease. The noise is now totally gone. UPDATE: It might be a better idea to spray white lithium grease on the latch on the rear seat rather than the metal hook in that picture. Grease on the metal hook might dirty the carpet on the rear seat. UPDATE: Marine grease on the latch on the rear seat worked better than white lithium grease. Sorry, I wasn't clear at all. I sprayed the metal. Not the plastic behind it. I sprayed enough so that the grease covers all around the metal. Top, bottom, front, and back.

Wouldn't it get on the carpet that is on the back of the rear seat when you put the seat up?

Lubed the latches inside the seats during my break. Will report back if the noise stops from my drive home.

I put some white lithium grease on the back seat latches and some spots around the trunk and still here a small click noise from somewhere. Kinda wish i could just have someone lay in the trunk while i'm driving and find the exact spot lol

The noise caused by the rear seat latch is a "popping" sound. Not clicking or ticking sound. It's like "opening the champagne bottle divided by 10".

Took my FR-S in to the dealer to get this issue fixed. Long story short they wouldn't accept a "Subaru" service bulletin.
I had the tech drive with me in the car. After they verified that it was making the same noise as described in the Subaru bulletin, they are now opening a case with Toyota to get a "Toyota" service bulletin out there. Anyone else have this experience? |

OMG i wish i saw this post earlier. That is the exact noise i am experiencing and it was starting to get quite loud and annoying. My car has been at the Toyota service center since yesterday and im picking it up today. Hopefully it will be resolved.
