Scion FR-S Window Tint Problem???

Hey friends,

I'm about to get my FR-S tinted. (right above legal limit) But my question is referring to if there will be a problem between the automatic window roll down when you exit the car. Doesn't the window need to remain up at all times? Or will this automatic window roll down damage the fresh tint on the vehicle?

I looked to see about disabling it, but have come up with nothing.

Thank!

I had zero problems with the tint even with the small amount of automatic window roll down. I was a bit concerned as well.

I didn't have any issues with mine, but if you can let it sit for a while without getting in, I'm sure it wouldn't hurt.

The place that did mine heated the windows with a torch when they were done to help set the tint then they filed the edge so the tint blended down to the glass. I had no issues at all with mine. If you are still concerned there is a thread on how to disable the down/up on open/close, there is plenty of room for the glass to go under the seal that way(I've opened and closed the doors with the battery disconnected)

The auto roll down. May cause a bubble to form when opening and closing the door. But the risk. Is only in the first hour to first day.

My driver side form a bubble the minute they gave key to leave. They quickly fixed it by heating it up. And I never had a problem since. My car been tinteded about 2 weeka

You will be good to go. I just got mine done Thursday. Only real issues is along the bottom and along the top where it rubs when it does its auto down thing.. Mine took A LOT of time on my drivers side with a heat gun knowing that I would use it, and he asked me not to open my passenger side the first day. Second day, all was good. You go to a reputable tint shop and you will have zero issues.

Had no problems with the tint after they did mine too. They used a trim squeegee tool to extend the tint film into the inside of the door.

Just dont roll your windows down for 3 to 5 days to be extra safe!

SOLUTION

1. Fold down rear seats
2. Get tinted
3. Open trunk
4. Climb in and up to the driver's seat.
5. Drive to destination.
6. Exit through the trunk via pull tab or key fob.
7. Repeat
...
8. Profit!

Haven't had any issues, my installer said the hardest part was the rear as well.

My guy took the bolt for the door button out to keep the window up while doing the tint. He use a torch to add some heat to set the tint before reinstalling the button. No problems at all with the tent. Per my tint guy the small window on the door was the hardest.

Reminds me of a time where I had my old car, a 97 Integra hatchback. We had freezing rain the night before following by freezing temps, so both doors were frozen shut and I didn't want to break the handles off trying to open them. What did I do you ask? Climb in through the trunk! Still made it to where I had to go in time!

My window tint hasn't given me any trouble and I've had it on for months.

I was concerned about this as well but my installer reassured me that he's never had any issues w/ auto windows. He used a heat gun to try to dry it as much as he can before i left the shop and told me to drive the car home and dont use it (open the door) till the next day. I parked the car outside and used my wife's car for 2 days to be on the safe side; fortunately it was a warm sunny weekend. It's now 4 months since the install and no issues.

Call around and look for an installer that sounds confident and has experience working on cars with similar window features. Good luck!

I had no problems with the windows on mine either. I did have an issue which the tint shop in Beaumont Texas fixed for me asap.
