One thing to keep in mind with Perrin's dynos, is that they're on a dynapack. I have yet to see someone match their (Perrin's) gains with another type of dyno. I've seen one in person, myself. Perrin claims 9 hp on their site, but this car gained 8 combined from I/E.
As far as dB's. I know Sony did sound testing on the exhaust. He has the quietest version, however. In this comparison, Perrin all the way. I don't like how the EVO sounds, at all. Last edited by 2forme; 02-28-2013 at 12:58 PM. |

I thought the Perrin did better dynowise than GReddy in the DSport shoot out article and the same dyno presumed is used across all the brands. No?

Fair enough but I also ordered the front pipe and overpipe, with plans of doing the headers. It would be too loud for my taste without the resonator. Its all to do with personal preferences though.

In the video you can easily tell when I WOT and when I let off the throttle. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9f4EdR6gFj0"]www.youtube.com/watch?v=9f4EdR6gFj0[/ame] You can tell a big difference in this video, much louder without the silencers. @lee yes definitely more noticeable w/o silencers, my question is do you think with a turbo setup vs. NA(which is typically louder) is the turbo setup going to sound more like the silencer video even without the actual silencer?

This was the exact same decision conflict I had. I ultimately went with the Greddy EVO 3 and I can honestly say I couldn't be happier. The sound is rather amazing imo. After I installed the exhaust I made my brother start the car and take it around the neighborhood so I could make a first impressions from outside the vehicle before I let the interior tone bias my opinion. First off impression was WOW it actually sounds like a boxer now and for the first time in a long while just a catback put a legit smile on my face. The tone is deep and clean throughout the RPM range. With the silencers in the exhaust it is quiet and sort of like a deeper version of the stock exhaust. I thought I would use the silencers more than I have and truth be told I ran em for a 1/2 day and have never put em back in.
I was really concerned with the reports of drone and the answer is yes it does exist however, the question is more so as to whether you are sensitive to this drone. My girlfriend, her son, my brother, and everyone else who has been in my car it does not bother them when questioned about it. With silencers there is zero drone. The tone of the exhaust does subside after you get some miles on the exhaust (In a good way). I have since added a Motiv over pipe and a Motiv catted front pipe and the exhaust sounds even better. Interestingly enough the drone seems to have subsided since the Motiv products were installed and the RPM in which it comes in has shifted (This is good because it moves it out of the highway cruising speed RPM). The Greddy looks very clean on this car and even though they use round canister style mufflers they are rather tucked up into the rear end so they do not by any stretch of the imagination look "ricer" or "dated" if you will. Overall I am satisfied and love the Greddy exhaust but truthfully I don't think you could go wrong with either Greddy or the Perrin. Both are great products and the quality is top notch on both. I have yet to hear an exhaust that duplicated the Greddy sound though...... To make a long story short go with whichever you feel right having because they are both awesome in their own ways. |

I can tell you that with a turbo, the Evo3 without the silencers is really not that loud. I also have a 2.5" overpipe and frontpipe with no cats. There is no way I would put the silencers in.

I drove my friend's Auto with the Evo 3, and good lord was it loud ... There wasn't any drone at cruising freeway speeds, but that's because he has the auto which cruises at 65 at around 2300? In the manual, I'm sitting at about 2800-3000 usually on the freeway, which is where the drone was nearly unbearable for my tastes ... I think it sounds amazing both in car and out, but I drive over an hour a day on the freeway and I personally wouldn't be able to handle the noise levels in cabin ... I'm going Perrin resonated, as I plan on getting headers once someone releases a catted version!

A lot of our customers are liking the evo3! If they want something a little quieter the SP elites are awesome as well.

I just got them put in yesterday. I'm extremely sensitive to the drone since I have holes in both my ear drums. I'm leaving my silencers in and it is so much better. I would like a little less cabin noise. |
