The thing you have to keep in mind is that with the 250, I was able to go WOT and take it up through the gears and really ring it out without getting into any trouble WRT to speed since it doesn't have much power. It does teach you to be smooth with the throttle and how to maintain momentum.

I moved up to a CBR600RR and the first time I took that bike out it scared the crap out of me. The power that it has is instantaneous and it's not something I would recommend to any beginner. There are folks that will say that it's fine if you respect the power, but the key thing to remember is that in an emergency situation with a more powerful bike where small inputs can give dramatic changes the larger bike can be much more unforgiving. A smaller bike will be more forgiving. You would much rather be focusing on riding defensively than worrying about the bike getting out of control from you.

Even now, I would consider getting another 250/300 if my wife would let me just for the fun factor and gas savings alone.
I respect this post, since Ive decided to pick up a bike to venture a new and more skilled platform im going to pick up a 250. Now I may look ridiculous in $2k worth of gear, but the reassurance and confidence I'll have is worth more than a thousand words let alone my life.

Honda has put the info up for their new bikes on their website.

I've decided I definitely do NOT like the new F6B, just looks like a ricer version of the Goldwing, or maybe too much like a Victory.

I do like the new Interstate:

and the CTX700. Only problem with this one is the tank is tiny (<4 gallons!).

What's really pissed me off is that they don't sell that bike in America.
I want to take a motorcycle adventure and have been casually looking at the used market. Growing up around my dad's Suzuki GS550 clearly made a positive impact because I find myself drawn to the "UJM" bikes of the 70's and early 80's. The Honda CB series comes so highly regarded that I must try one out! I don't need the fastest or most aggressive bike. I just want something versatile, capable in various settings, with a flat seat, upright seating position, and inexpensive parts.

Note for people new to bikes: UJM = Universal Japanese Motorcycle. This is the term used to describe upright "standard" bikes that became popular in the 70's and 80's before everything was covered in plastic fairings and leaned forward like a racing bike.

Also, for anyone who rides or wants to ride, you have to check out www.advrider.com. The members post photo stories from their travels all over the world. It is fantastic!
