They could, actually, through subsidies or a mandated price ceiling, but neither option is really a good one or ever likely to be passed, the latter being especially bad. I guess the federal and state governments could lower taxes, which would lower prices a maximum of all of $0.495 per gallon on average.

I have an ethanol free station 2 blocks from the house. Never have problems with chirping unless I fill up out of town.

Yeah, I should have put in a qualifier of "without passing massive legislation", but the idea that the government has a direct impact on gas prices is kinda absurd right now. That's what many people get wrong - the government can't just set prices on anything and everything as it pleases on a regular basis, including gas, but the idea of a worldwide, open market affected by everything from the political climate to the weather to the exact blend to the relative strength of the dollar worldwide eludes people.

Question

According to this site it says Chevron 94 is ethanol free for British Columbia.

Can anyone confirm this is still the case for BC
(This is what I was planning to use, but so much info on this site and elsewhere conflicts. Can I just read on the pump whether it is ethanol free gas

Just read further when I clicked on the Unbranded:

Unbranded - UNBRANDED

I canvassed the major dealers and Co-op for Victoria and learned that stations (except Chevron) sell pure gas ... no ethanol. The delivery equipment on the Island does not accommodate Ethanol.

city

So I guess it will have to be CO-OP 91

All Peninsula CO-OP gas contains NO ethanol. Today, I stopped at the CO-OP gas station on the Pat Bay Highway. I needed fuel for my truck. I took a look at all the pumps and could find no reference to Ethanol. After filling I went in to ask. The staff member suggested that there were two of Federated CO-OP's energy engineers on the premises and that I should talk to them about that. I engaged them on the subject. They told me that at the present time none of their motor fuels have any ethanol component ... None. They said that, if that changes, the pumps affected will be clearly marked.

So I guess it will have to be CO-OP 91

This is lame, so you are basically paying more for 94 octane from Chevron, but it is not true 94 as it contains ethanol for the difference.
Boo, lame!

Gas prices are right where big oil wants them. If the gas supply goes up putting pressure on them to lower the price they simply start to export more gas overseas to once again limit supply. To maintain the high prices last year, big oil exported a near record amount of gasoline.

Exclamation

So I contacted CO-OP gas on Vancouver Island and they were able to confirm ALL grades of their gas are Ethanol Free!

So what's the deal with Chevron? I have contacted them and not yet received a reply. I want to put 94 Octane in my car, but would rather it be pure fuel.

Comments?

Exclamation Chevron Gasoline

Received a reply to my e-mail yesterday from Chevron.

"Thank you for the inquiry, and apologies for the delay in getting a response sent out to you. Your unanswered email was just brought to our attention.

As of January 1, 2010, BC's Reformulated Fuel Standard (RFS) requires that an average of 5% renewable fuel content be blended into all gasolines. To meet this mandate, Chevron Canada is now blending up to 10 volume percent ethanol into our Chevron Regular, Chevron Regular Plus, and Chevron Supreme gasolines. Chevron gasolines sold in BC may contain up to 10 volume percent ethanol. Where ethanol blended gasoline is sold, it is present in all three grades mentioned. Up to 10% ethanol by volume.

Regarding Supreme Plus (94 octane), it does not contain ethanol nor do we have any plans in the future to add ethanol to the product. Supreme Plus remains a core product in our suite of fuels and we plan to continue to offer it at our BC facilities.

The regulations provide sufficient flexibility for us to provide ethanol-free product to our customers on Vancouver Island for all grades of gasoline; and to our customer in the rest of BC for our 94 Octane grade. Please note that this represents the current situation, and the content of our fuels may change in the future, since our products are always clearly labeled as to ethanol content, we will provide notice of any changes.

Sincerely,

Chevron Fuels Technical Services"

Cool Chevron 94 is Ethanol Free

This photo will hopefully put all doubt concerning Chevron gasoline to rest. This is the first pump I have seen labels at, so I took a shot.
I have used this gasoline since day one, including the dealer fill up, and I have yet to hear the crickets sing!

ethanol is also bad for older engines, maybe pre-fuel injection engines.

FWIW, here in Florida we have 93 octane with small percentage of ethanol and I've only heard crickets once in the few months I've owned the car

Yeah my neighbor has a 69 GTO and he drives over 50 miles round trip in his Forester to the closest station with ethanol free fuel to fill 5 gallon gas cans to put in his car because the ethanol crap ruins his fuel lines and such.

I'm finding 93 hard to find. I think all of this talk about ethanol is a flash in the pan. Plus or minus, it doesn't really make that much of a difference with performance, fuel efficiency, carbon emissions...........anything really.

Sounds like a rich kids pet project.

It silences the crickets for all those people who actually care.
For everything else, it does improve those factors but don't know if it's noticeable.

Just out of curiosity I checked my state. Quite a lot of ethanol-free gas stations, though most not in my area. But what struck me was that they were predominantly unbranded, or of some weird brands. With a modern engine I would probably care much more to use a Top Tier brand gas, than about ethanol.
