Hi Everyone!

I'm from the Bronx, NY, and I'm looking to buy a car for the first time ever in my life. I have driven before, but my family sold their last car a few years ago. I finally have a steady job, and I'm looking forward to buying an FR-S in Whiteout, Raven, Firestorm or Asphalt. I'm torn between those 4 colors, and I really need help deciding which one to get.

If anyone has any tips for a first time buyer like myself, I would greatly appreciate it. I'd like to know what people think about getting a 2013 FR-S or if I should wait for the 2014 FR-S since its almost March and Summer is approaching. Thanks for your time guys. Hope to share my FR-S experience with u all

Check out the color specific photo threads to help you decide. The car really looks great in all colors.

For a first time buyer, know your credit score before you go in to buy. Find out how much the doc fee is at your dealer too, they tend to vary dealer to dealer. Read EVERYTHING. It also doesn't hurt to check out a local credit union to see what sort of financing you can get. As for when to buy, wait until the 2014s are out and find a dealer with a left over 2013 (might be tough). They still may not negotiate the price because of the pure pricing, but maybe you can get them to throw in a few accessories for free.

Thank you for your quick response. I've been looking at all the different photo threads and I'm kinda leaning towards whiteout or raven. I'll definitely check with the credit unions nearby. Would you happen to know when the 2014 FR-S will be released? I've tried searching for it but to no avail. I'm guessing it will be around June, right?

An option for getting the best rate if you finance is to go by your bank and see if they will give you a car loan. You won't have to use it but you can make sure that the rate the dealer provides is reasonable or make them bring it down. Of course if you are buying out right, then ignore this reply.

I would love to buy it outright, but I dont have that kind of money lol (wish I did) I'm 24 years old and i was given an insurance quote of 415 a month. Is that right because that's ridiculous!?

Rates vary depending on your zip code and I would not be surprised to find that NY has some of the highest rates in the nation. Also being under 25 and not having had insurance before works against you. On the plus side, if you can check other insurers you might find one with a better rate. You should also ask about how much rates change once you turn 25 and if there are discounts for a good driving record.

My mom still lives in NY (Long Island) and she said her premiums went up when she went to renew. They said it was because of the hurricane.

You've got a few things going against you. One, you live in the Bronx. Two, you're 24. Lastly, I'm assuming you've never had insurance in the past.

When I first got my own coverage when I was 21 I was paying about $320 a month for full coverage on my Acura. I'm now 24 and with a better insurance company and I pay a little more than that every 6 months on that car. My FR-S is just over $500 every 6 months iirc.

Driving record, insurance history, credit history, residence, age, type of car, and mileage per year play a role in your premiums. Shop around for insurance to get the best rate. But at the amount you were quoted per month, I'd suggest waiting until you're 25 or getting a pos old car to drive for a while so you will pay less when you eventually get the FR-S.

I was getting tired of the more or less monthly trips to the shop (I sadly don't have time or space to do my own work), but couldn't stomach the weight and feature bloat that all new cars seem to have. With my lovely spousal unit only stipulating that I couldn't get a Cadillac (years of empty threats pay off!), I went looking. I had tested a 335d (torques!, but too grown up for me) and an Abarth (hilarious, and awesome but, well, too juvenile) as bookends to the search and so I wouldn't have any doubts. Finally went with the FRS over the BRZ because less is more.

The e30 is a sweet, sweet ride and if I had the time to work on it I can't imagine getting rid of it, but, I also like, in no particular order: staying completely dry, even in the heaviest rain ('vert top is tight, but they _all_ leak in enough weather); a quartet of thumps rather than a symphony of squeaks, rattles, thumps and that graanch of old bushings under stress; a manual transmission (hey, the e30 was a hand me down, I wasn't complaining); and the security of a more or less known monthly cost.

Just finished day 3, mile 200, and eagerly awaiting mile 1,000.

Hey there my name is Jeff from Houston, TX I bought my first new car last Friday, what a great car to have as my first purcahse. I wasn't even planning on getting one this quick but the dealership just got in a manual whiteout frs in that day so I went for a test drive and was sold! Coming from a 2000 accord to this feels like a rocket haha, it is plenty fast for me at the moment it is just fun to drive again! Looking forward to chatting with you all in this forum!
