I just checked AutoTrader and there is a beautiful E36 M3 Coupe available within driving distance. Only 66k miles, alcantara, overall excellent condition. The downside, they're asking 18 grand for it.

The twins being reliable...not yet. They still have too many bugs to work out..but at least you have the warranty for that.
Everything about the BMW maintenance/repair costs is true. My family members learned the hard way...a BMW out of warranty is a friggin' nightmare. |

Had an e36 M3, then a RX-8(Series 1)
The BRZ (Ltd) is a great mesh of both vehicles, though I'm not sure how to define it. The 8 was missing some of the creature comforts I had in the M3. I realize this has to do with tech getting cheaper, but still. I'm glad I traded the 8 for the BRZ. |

Having experienced both, I think the E46 M3 will reward someone who truly appreciates the subjective aspects of the car (good seats, ergonomic and insulated cabin, race-derived engine characteristics). The BRZ isn't as satisfying on a tactile level but it feels more rigid (as it should be being over a decade newer) and robust (it can withstand more abuse).
Both the BRZ and E46 M3 are very focused cars that serious drivers will appreciate, but they are quite different in how they go about doing what they do. Last edited by smmmurf; 02-23-2013 at 04:34 PM. |

Agreed. I would also like to point out that compared to most modern cars 3200lbs is still relatively light weight.
