Not to throw a wrench in anyone's plans, but I just tried the offset and center (original) 2.5" axlebacks on my brz, and I find the sound of the center axleback to be more enjoyable. The rest of my car is basically stock. Now, both axlebacks are excellent, and the build quality is phenomenal. However, while the offset was quieter during startup, idle, and louder under full-throttle high rpms, the deceleration sound was almost boomy and too deep for my liking. The result was between ~2750-4000rpms, the offset version had a single, deep boom kinda sound that didn't please me. The center version, on the other hand, sounded like the deceleration boom was more broken up. I think the center version is louder than the offset in most respects, and maybe kind of more raw-sounding, but my main exhaust sensitivity is deceleration sound, and I prefer the center version. I will have to wait and see how installing the nameless midpipe changes things, but for now, I'm sticking with the center version.

Did you happen to take any sound clips?

Also I was a little confused on which one you felt was louder, but would it be correct to say that you felt that the center version is louder except under high RPM, where the offset is louder?

It will be interesting to compare the sound of the original 2.5" AB to the new 3" AB. Either way, great company and a great product...the wait for mine is killing me..

Unfortunately, I didn't take any soundclips. The general consensus that the offset has a deeper tone than the center version is correct. Based on my experience, the offset version is louder than the center version under WOT at high rpms (it sounds really good there, better than the center), but also louder or boomier under deceleration, which I didn't like.

I'll post video clips of my 3" center Axleback when I get it, then the DP/OP when it is added, then a header so everyone can hear the difference between each level.

Talked to Jason today and he said they just completed a redesign of the axleback using larger mufflers. He was also saying they are only doing the offset alignments now too. Supposed to ship mine with the downpipe tomorrow and should arrive Monday. Looking forward to getting everything installed and testing it out.

Makes me wonder if my order is still going to be centered.

From what he was telling me all of the 2.5" are going to be with the larger mufflers and offset.

I just spoke with Jason and the new design has 8" mufflers. They went and built a crapload of the 6" systems, ran out of muffler caps, and now they are back to making axlebacks with the 8" mufflers because of the resonance produced with the header. When they increased the muffler size, it helped tremendously with the highway cruise he said.

My order will be shipping out tomorrow or thursday!

Didn't get a chance to ask him about if all of the axlebacks are all off-set by default. I'm sure you can still choose that option. All I know is, from here on out, every axleback for the FR-S/BRZ will be 8" mufflers. They do a lot of customizing so I'm sure you could request smaller mufflers if you don't plan on a header, but he said the tone and sound of the exhaust is unchanged. It makes the drive much more pleasant at highway cruise speed in 6th driving about an hour to his laser cutter and back with the catless header, OP/DP, and the revised axleback with the 8" mufflers.

Are they replacing the midpipe with the resonator yet?

I didn't have time to ask. Jason was extremely busy as they are swamped right now. He said they'll be building axlebacks for the next two days. It's on my list of questions to ask too. I want a 3" midpipe to go with my axleback.

I was hoping to have mine before Sunday for C&C but it looks like it will be next week. Ordered mine back on Feb. 6th, but they did revisions since then. I don't mind it at all. I know I'm getting the best axleback for this car.

Mine is that same batch and is supposed to go to powder coating at the end of this week. So excited.
