What to decide.... another vehicle...

Ive been searching for a house to buy here in the near future and was thinking about what would be easier and better to purchase due to the house loan and all. Here is my choices that i have been thinking about... One, an '89 supra turbo, 5spd, targa top. Great condition, only 52k miles on it originally. Body and interior is in pretty damn good shape for a 24 year old car. Or a brand new FR-S with a manual. Things i want to do with either of them... Swap a 2J in whenever either motor blows or has a major problem.

I want the supra due to the fact that i love them. Ive owned 3 of them and loved working on them. I know the motors and the cars problems and solutions.
Not pros:
I never worked on a boxer motor before and personally i think it would be a pain in the ssa if i even needed to just replace the plugs in them. Also, its a 4cylinder.

I know this model supra isn't known for its power potential or its styling and that it also has head gasket problems."i know how to solve this without a problem".
Pros of each:
The supra would not even cost what a turbo kit costs for an FR-S and i already have parts for them. The parts are cheaper and can make about 700hp on the stock internals. These cars have been tested and know where and when to do what to them to get the power and reliabilty you want out of them.

The FR-S is a brand new car with great styling and a warranty.

The conclusion
Im not sure about what i want more. I just love the power of the 3.0 and the cockpit of a supra, but i love that the FR-S is beautiful and new. Help me find the better one to choose. Thanks to all.

The answer is obvious to me, buy an FRS.

You already know what a Supra is, how it drives and so forth and you even know about the engines.

That would be boring, owning the same car for a 4th time!

I hear that, but i also forgot to mention that i never actually got to drive them legally.. None were road worthy before i had to end up selling them for cash... so it was all just a tease to me lol

I also had 3 mk3 supras (a 7mgte, 1jzgte, and a 2jzgte) and now i have an frs. I cant really speak for you financially, but they are not the same type of car obviously. The supra (assuming stock other than engine/susp/brakes/wheels) would be more "daily comfortable" but not by much. More trunk space. And assuming u do the 2jzgte it would be more fun on straight roads etc. though i bet if you look, u can find a mk4 tt stock w miles on it for what a mk3 and motor and swap would cost you right now.

Ive been looking for a MkIV and i can't find one for anywhere close to 10k... The only way ill get either car is with a loan. I wish i could find a MKIV for a great price but they are all north of 20k...

I never said 10k... To buy a clean mk3, and a 2jzgte/6speed along with all parts needed to do the swap plus labor etc (unless u are doing it 100% urself) you will be closer to 20-25k (last used supra getrag price i came across was 3k tranny alone)

yea i know, but i won't need the V160, its got the r154 in it and i can get the bellhousing for it. I can do the swap myself along with some supra buddies from around here. Just need the engine and the few swap parts...

Yea. U CAN use a r154.. But if youre considering a frs that would be upwards of 25k so i assumed ur budget would allow for u to do it right

Here's my two cents:

1. Buy the Supra as it will the the more economically efficient route especially considering that you want to do a built 2JZ swap.

2. Buy the FR-S, drive it like you stole it, and replace the drivetrain when it all goes to shit with a built 2JZ.

To buy an FR-S just to do an engine swap though seems a little backwards to me, but more power to you if you can make it work. Personally, I'd stick with what you're used to, but the FR-S is insane amounts of fun, and it would be killer with a turbo'd I6 under the hood.

If you've got no money but want to make "big power" I guess the Supra is the only choice...

This. At least any good loan... I'm not sure I'd suggest any car to mod if you need a loan for an 89 supra. No offense intended but maybe save up first.
