Dealer Troubles

Hey friends, I just had a rather... Odd... experience at my dealer. I traded in my 2006 Civic Si for my shiny brand new Scion FR-S and I really liked my salesman, he was hugely nice, honest, and very helpful. My Civic Si only had 55k miles on it and it was in excellent condition. Before trading it in I told my salesman I'd put the stock airbox back on it, but I didn't put the stock springs back on because that is a lot of work. He says no problem, and the transaction is smooth and painless, everyone seemed to be happy.

Almost a week later I get a call from my salesman asking some questions about my car. Said the mechanics in the back were confused about some stuff with the stock airbox and the suspension... I tell him I could bring the stock springs to him if he wanted, and he said that would be cool. I could get my aftermarket springs back and sell them, so it couldn't hurt and it would help out my salesman.

Here is where the trouble starts... My stock airbox wasn't "complete" because the previous owner did the "Delete Resonator Mod"

http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/engin...-like-cai.html

No biggie, I thought... Who cares if it doesn't have that resonator? I bought it like that and it was fine. Well, when I got to the dealer and the service guy starts tearing into me about how I sold them an incomplete car, that I lied to them, and he was just being the biggest asshole I think I've ever had to talk to in my entire life. He also accused me of breaking the suspension? And a bunch of other crap and then said he appraised the car with my aftermarket intake, insinuating that I owed them money. I thought I was being nice bringing the springs back, so I was incredibly insulted being treated like that. I didn't have to do anything for them after they bought my car, I'm just a nice guy. I told him to fuck off, grabbed my stock springs and left. My salesman chased after me and tried to calm me down, but I just kindly told him that I didn't appreciate the way the service department treated me and that I probably won't ever come back to this dealer. I'm expecting another call tomorrow, but I don't know what to make of this situation.

Has anything like this ever happened to any of you guys? My dealer is Don Joseph Toyota Scion in Kent, Ohio.

I really hate when one department ruins a whole dealership. The parts guy at Livermore Subaru is one of the nicest around and they have great prices. The service dept is a bunch of ****s. I went in and asked if they could just pull a abs code for me, no diagnostics, didn't even need to tell me what the code was. I only wanted a number. The guy basically blew me off saying it wasn't possible, and he would have to charge me at least an hours labor because they have to diagnose any code they pull. Went to another dealer 45 minutes the other direction and even got a free wash with the code pulled.

Dealers make most of their money from the service and parts department... It's kind of crazy how they think they can get away with treating customers like this.

To the OP: don't be concerned about your trade in. The dealer is a big boy and will deal with it. What do you think the dealer would say if you bought the Honda from them and complained after the sale. Caveat emptor!

haha true dat. I was just really upset that I made a special trip out there to do something nice for my salesman (they bought the car knowing it was lowered... It's not like it wasn't obvious, it was tucking tire and I even told them that it was on aftermarket springs) and instead of thanking me for doing something that I had no legal obligation to do, the service manager just started accusing me of ripping them off. Telling me that he "appraised the car with the aftermarket intake" when he didn't even pop the hood to know that it had one in the first place (I was there when he went over the car and appraised it and so was the salesman, who did back me up on that)

So I just grabbed my stock springs and left. The guy was like "wait, we need those" and I said "Well, you appraised the car without the stock springs." I felt like a bamf for such a clever comeback. hahahaha

I hate when they do shit like that to try and get you to bite on signing for a worse deal. The salesman was probably in on it too and they were playing a little good cop bad cop.

Tell those fucks that they bought the car as-is and if they have a problem with that then they shouldn't have signed on the dotted line. If they persist, pay a lawyer $50 to write a strongly worded letter that they need to kindly fuck off and be done with it. The fact that you even offered to bring the stock springs back means there was no intent to deceive on your part so they cant even pull that kind of bullshit on you.

I never even thought about the "good-cop-bad-cop" bullshit. I really liked my salesman... But dealers are known to be pretty shady, so I wouldn't doubt it at this point. I fix a lawyer's computer from time to time, so I can get a letter pretty easily I'd imagine. I definitely didn't try to scam them, my car was in excellent condition... It was just missing a resonator for the intake. Big deal. It just sucks because I try to be honest and fair about everything, so it was just really shitty that they tried to pull that on me. Probably just saw a young kid that they could try and scam and thought they could get away with it.

I definitely wasn't trying to "fuck the dealer back..." Nothing is wrong with that car, they just tried to make it seem like there was.

Yeah, I guess trying to do the right thing at your car dealer isn't worth the effort. Next time I'll be sure to treat everyone like shit.

This is the biggest crap.

They can sell the car as is and make allot of money on it.

As long as the car is not illegal in your state for smog, there isn't a problem.

Actually, I just realized something. When the service guy inspected and appraised my car, it had the stock airbox on it. I couldn't remember if I had taken it off before I had brought it in because I was at the dealer several times that week. I told my salesman I would be back after the car was stock for them to evaluate it. I checked my Facebook status update time stamps to confirm it because I had posted something about it. The only reason the service guy knew about my intake was because I was being honest with the guy and said that I didn't remember if he test drove it with the intake on or not.

So basically, the guy got some information out of me and then straight up lied to me and tried to to scam me. I am beyond pissed right now.
