You live enough and you're treated to a day where someone whines about a whiner and lights a fire storm. Today looks like one of them days...

I agree completely. I came from a bench seat, stick shift 06 Tacoma to this car. Don't tell me it needs a short shifter, or that it rides too firm, or that it wallows in corners, or that the seats aren't comfy, or it needs more options, or that you're *ashamed of the scion badges and wanna spend 2000 dollars making it look like a toyota*

That's all ridiculous. Drivers car doesn't mean that it entertains the driver when it's sitting still. IT'S FOR DRIVING.

Well there was your problem. Right there.

Any newer German car you'd be surprised, but as with any forum, or anything in life, people are going to cling to a niche and become narrow minded about things. Corvettes are nice, audi's/vw's are great, and so are Japanese cars. They all have their pros and cons, but hey... meh.

I always get a chuckle out of the folks who dog on the luxury brands yet have no experience owning them.
again,no refection on you personally, but for the kind of scratch you was throwin' at 'em,that's the LEAST they should do! if it was me,i wouldn't leave for less than ''stock " in porcshe! just sayin'

There are three or four of us who have owned Caymans on here. That doesn't make the FR-S/BRZ a Cayman competitor. Two totally different vehicles.
That's not what many are saying but ill take your word on it as your opinion. But I think your missing the point. No two cars are alike but the end result, the driving experience and the style of the ride is not "worlds apart" seriously. What else can you get that's closer for less than half the price?
You know what I can get for $55k?? A New Stringray which will eat the Porsche all day long in every way.
Ive owned cars and dealt with high end dealerships too. You get what you pay for! Its built in and yeah, im annoyed that I cant get a loaner but my insurance company will pay for a number of rentals and, tada, the Toyota dealership is setup for it! No additional expense to me and I get it overnight!
BTW: Subaru dealerships suck! The GIANT Toyota dealerships by me are great!
This car, for the price, can have all the faults it wants but I bet it doesn't!

I have this very high end mechanic for like 15+ years, hes become a friend. He services my families cars, mostly Mercedes. He's been "the reason" I can own a MB, fixes things better and much cheaper than the dealerships! We've shopped Porsche a number of times, the cars are expensive and demanding when they start to age! Few aren't and some are unaffordable, cost more in maintenance averaged out monthly over time than a new FR-S.
Most get rid of them just before the first wave of tires, breaks and "tune up" that can cost thousands. About $9000 on as new 911 and its just begun. Not an everyday driver for most.
I drive nearly 30k miles a year, not always in the same car but I don't believe in a garage car. I believe cars are meant to be driven!

Therefore, it's got more stiffness in the rear and can sacrifice the stiffness of the rear panels to allow for a hatch back.

The FRS has its engine up front, and nothing in the back to stiffen it. With a half dozen giant braces back there then maybe the FRS could be a lift-back as well. But without any excessive bracing in the rear, and without the reinforcement of the engine mounts, it simply isn't stiff enough to allow for the lift back. You could stiffen it, but then it would be heavier, and who the hell wants that?

Moral of the story - Yes, mid engine is better. Also more expensive. The FRS has a tiny trunk opening because it's stiffer that way, and because it doesn't have an engine back there to lean on.
Have you seen, driven an RSX?? The FR-S could easily have been a hatch back, the convertible is on its way!
They obviously wanted to keep the low profile, a hatch would have had to budge up a bit taking away from that look. I get it but... im bitching.
Side, by side the RSX and the FR-S are very close in size, the FR-S being slightly lower profile with shorter windows and less headroom and it doesn't have a hatchback!
Honda tried to replace the RSX with the SI but it didn't work. The model RSX that was being built and was canned in 06 was more like a 2+2 S2000 with a hatchback damit! I wanted that car but what we got was a Civic on steroids.
