Not to be that guy, but this simply tells us that you've been careless for the past 10 years. It caught up to you because you didn't pay attention to the road conditions, your car's condition and posted warnings (pictured below, that turn's suggested speed which you double on a daily basis).

I hope this is a lesson for you as you move on to a RWD car. Mistakes are what help us learn, but you can't justify your actions as if the result wasn't your fault and still learn the lesson. You were going too fast given the conditions and you didn't maintain your car properly.

and you lifted throttle after the apex... that makes no sense to me, your foot should have been planted exiting that corner!

They typically have more grip in the wet when it's above 45 degrees or so, yes. But they usually don't have as good of hydroplaning resistance compared to all season or winter tires due to their lack of tread depth and grooving/sipes.

My wife still has her 2005 tC and drives it every day. I enjoy driving it so much that I put an intake on it and cross-drilled rotors with upgraded pads and better tires! I spent most of last year autocrossing it and did pretty well.

I won't delve into why you car ended up on its roof since I wasn't there and you alone know what was the real cause of that accident. I'm sure you run it over and over again in your head enough without having someone kick your ass about it. I'm just glad you're ok and seeing how well the tC's chassis survived landing on its top makes me a bit more comfortable about my wife driving one every day.

I wish you the best with your FRS and please be mindful about what others are saying about how the FRS behaves. Just try and take how they are saying it with a thick skin.

Exactly right. Combination of years of overconfidence with inexperience in rain. Lesson definitely learned and plan on being very cautious with my new baby. I have no plans for turning TCS off unless in a controlled environment. I may sometimes be too confident, but my "stupid" years are long behind me!

Lifted and started coasting a couple hundred yards before the corner. That's how I normal took that turn because I'm decelerating from freeway speeds and it's downhill going in. Most of the time, there's no reason to get back on the gas until midway through the corner and it turns uphill. Usually mechanical drag slows me down enough, but not that day. Roads were much more slick than I thought and I guess it was just too fast. Live and learn.

Most good Max Performance Summer tires have full 10/32 tread depth (some Extreme Performance too) and plenty of void ratio to resist hydroplaning. Sipes don't necessarily do a lot for wet grip or hydroplaning resistance.

Same car, same tests (different day though), the best Max Performance tires do a bit better in the wet as well as in the dry vs. the best Ultra High Performance All-Seasons.
