Shaking my head. 619, you of course are free to do what you want and like what you want, but this fitment is outside the manufacturer's specs on every tire I can find. (Basically, 225/40R18 is specified for wheel widths between 7.5" and 9" wide.) It also looks to me like that front tire is going to contact the fender at full compression, but I could be wrong on that.

For the rest of you watching at home, my big issue with this kind of "fitment" (or ill-fitment) is that the tire isn't designed for the sidewalls to be at such an extreme angle. The bead strength is reduced, the connection from the sidewall to the tread is weakened, and overall sidewall strength will be less.

From the standpoint of weight, you've basically added extra weight in the form of a much larger wheel than is required for that tire size. On a car where weight is so important (given the low power and torque, every pound counts), wasting weight on a wider-looking wheel just seems a shame.

Again, to the original poster, this is your car and you can do what you like to it. Some people like this look, regardless of function. I guess my post is mostly directed at future wheel/tire purchasers. To those people, do yourself a favor and get a wheel that's sized properly to the tire you're planning to run. It'll weigh less and you'll maximize grip and strength, and you'll have better-than-stock performance, not worse.

Everyone has their own opinion. No sense in bad mouthing my car. I never thought of tracking these wheels. Simply wanted this particular look. The car actually handles better than factory. If I want to track my car or worried about shaving seconds off my lap time then I'd go with a different size. As for weight, the wheel only weighs around 1 pound more than factory. Not bad for such a large wheel. Thanks for your post.

Glad to see this wheel setup posted up. Ordered my wheels with the exact same setup. Are you running any negative camber in the front/rear? No rubbing during hard turns either?

If you could post a picture of the car from the back that would be great. (Want to see how wide it looks with a 225/40 tire.)

Thanks, and the car looks wicked!

I would have went with a higher offset to tuck them in a little but it is clean! I like it. Whats the highest offset you can get these in for 18x8.5 and 9.5?

Thanx! In the rear there is some camber, but it comes naturally from the car when you lower it. I lowered it 1.4 inches with some Center Gravity springs. The front has no camber. Lemme edit some pictures and I'll post them later for the rear shot.

Oh and no rubbing at all on hard turns. That's not to say if their was a massive pot hole that it wouldn't rub haha.

The offset really depends on the tire size you're going with too. The only reason my size wheel with +30 even fits is because I went with a 225 tire and the stretch of the tire fits perfect to tuck when the suspension compresses. What size are you thinking of doing?

I'm not bad-mouthing your car! I'l be the first to say, it LOOKS fantastic.

I guess I am bad-mouthing your decision to pair those wheels with those tires. Sorry.

That's true -- they are very light for such a large wheel. Of course, an 8" version of the same wheel would be even lighter.

Thanx! It's ok, everyone has their own opinion. I knew what I was getting into pairing those tires and size wheels.

I have never heard of those springs. Anywhore, I'm really gonna shit on Dans day, I'm running 17x10+15 WORK EQUIPs 05' with a 215/40. Tons of neg camber, and rolled/pulled fenders. I look so cool when I have no grip though.

If i recall correctly, I remember several of the Japanese tuners currently run a 18x9.5 with 225 setup, and their cars are catered towards performance and chasing time.

Well they are much slower than they could be then.
