Well ya, there'd be a way by adding a switch... To cut ignition power to the flasher to fool it into thinking you're parked while you're really driving. But shhh you didn't hear that from me. And you gotta remember if IGN is cut to the flasher then there is no signaling... You'd be in programming mode if you used the signal stalk without the flashers while IGN is cut. This can cause a very sketchy driving experience, and probably unsafe, so I don't recommend it.

My Tap Turn module arrived yesterday, and I installed it last night. It works as advertised, and is a nice upgrade! I have this feature in our other cars, and came to miss it in the ’86. I like that you can very easily select the number of flashes upon tapping the turn signal lever. I set it at four; all my other cars with this feature are fixed at three blinks. My understanding is that the standard Tap Turn module makes the turn signal click quietly. So I had the seller provide the modified module, with drilled holes to make the clicking louder. I am glad I did, because in my non-scientific estimation, the new module clicks just a tiny bit louder than stock – in other words, perfect.

I did find the module more difficult to install than I expected. Nothing due to the module itself, but instead because it was very difficult to get the stock module out. I could not get it out of its press-in fixture where it is attached to the structure under the dash. With the stock module stuck in there, I also could not get the wiring bundle disconnected from it, because I did not realize there is a white pushbutton tab on the top side of the connector – it is invisible from below. After struggling with it, I ended up pulling the “guts” out of the shell of the old module, leaving its shell attached under the dash -- the guts actually snap out quite easily. At which point I could finally see that white tab, and could remove the connector from the guts. After that -- all was easy. I just plugged the new module into the connector, zip tied it to a nearby cable bundle, and voila -- done. Lastly, I snapped the guts of the original module back into the old shell, so the stock module remains in the car. The working space under there is pretty tight, but adequate.

Anyway, in conclusion, this is a nice product and a worthwhile upgrade. Highly recommended!

Cheers,

Dave

Post #83 in this thread has some install tips, about how the flasher is clipped to the car.

Thanks; I had previously read that helpful post, but it didnt work for me. Maybe I should have exerted more force... but I pulled and pulled, and mine would just not come out. I was afraid of breaking the piece if I pulled much harder on it.

But all's well that ends well. Great product.

Cheers,

Dave

It is really in there. I had to pull really hard to get it out, just get a good hold of it and pull straight down and nothing should break.

Good luck!

Ordered. Seems to be on back order. Excited to receive and install. Had this on my 2008 VW R32 and miss it tremendously!

Developer, what do you mean, "pull straight down", I thought it was connected to the firewall, which is the wall facing the engine. I would have thought that you would pull straight back, towards the drivers seat?

Are there no pictures of this elusive module and it's real location, and an easy procedure for removing it without cutting your hands to shreds?

It looks like a standard flasher, which slides onto a mount rather than pushes onto a mount. The direction to slide the flasher off its mount is to slide it away from the side the plug is on. The plug comes along with the flasher. Some cars use an adapter that slides onto the flasher and then that gets mounted to the car, however it is designed to... On FRS BRZ I think the adapter is pushed into a hole. Hence you can pull that out along with the flasher when you yank it. Maybe there's not enough room to slide the flasher off its mount point in this car... But you can try that first to see if it is possible. Once you have a flasher in your hand you can see how this makes sense.
