Few Questions for all you BRZ brainiacs out there.
I have 2013 White BRZ 6 sp.
I've noticed a few idiosyncrasies with the car and thought maybe some of you could help with answers to these questions. I have use the search function but couldn't find these answers. 1. When idling with the air cond off, the tach sticks at 650 and doesn't move (ok, that's good). But when I turn the air cond on the tach will move up to 750, and then, slowly return to 650 in 5 secs. Then about 10-15 secs later it will do it all over again and again and again. Why would the air cond compressor keep cycling on and off within 15 secend periods? 2. When using a USB thumb drive to play music thru the head unit, it seems like a folder (in the thumb drive) can't have more then 255 songs attach. One of my folders had 300 songs and I couldn't see more then 255 on the display, so I moved the other 45 songs to another folder and then I could see them, is that what everybody understands? 3. My previous cars had been German or Chrysler, they have a thing whereas you push the turning indicator stalk up or down for a sec and the turning indicator would automatically blink 3 times. This is great for lane changing without having to hold the lever. Is there any blinker plug-in I can buy that will help the car do this? 4. When using the blue tooth phone there didn't seem to be a Mute button... is there no Mute button? 5. Most other cars I've had.. the radio/phone and window buttons stay active for short time after the car is turned off, but on the BRZ everything dies immediately... is this adjustable? 6. Is there a plug-in tool I can buy so that I can change the time the lights stay on, and which doors auto unlock, without having the dealer do this for me. 7. The correct way to close the Hood..... drop it from 12" or press it closed? 8. If you have the auto headlights on and you turn the car off, but don't get out, will the lights just stay on? sub-question: if you do get out, but had popped the trunk from the button on the dash, will the lights stay until you close the trunk? I know this is a lot of questions, but would appreciate any answers to any of these. Thanks for any help. |

1. Normal in all cars
2. Not ure, I use xm and an iPod. 3. Lookup "tap turn" 4. Not that I've noticed. The phones mute button works though. 5. Don't think so. Japanese cars don't tend to do that except for luxury cars. 6. The doors you can do yourself. There's a DIY in here somewhere. Not sure about the lights. 7. Drop it, it's aluminum so pushing it could cause it to dent. S2000s are the same way. 6-9" should be fine though. 8. Yes and yes from what my brain recalls at the moment. Trunk is definitely yes.

1. You must be new to 4 cylinder cars. This is normal.
2. Probably a software issue. 3. One touch turn signal. Google. 4. Power button. 5. That sounds dumb. I've never sat in my car just listening to music, staring at my window buttons... 6. 555 timer? 7. Slam that sucker down. 8. I hate the auto headlight feature. I know when it's dark. |

Seriously, if you just google search one touch turn signal, there's already a relay replacement that allows this, is customizable (as far as how many auto blinks), and is compatible with LED bulbs (no hyper flash). The cost is up there, but if it's worth it to you, then get it.

For issue 2 (USB), it's not a coincidence that the limit is 255. It's the same as the mpg being limited to 127. Basically when programming software for the radio or gauge cluster, you pretty much get maxed out by how many bits you decide to use in your hardware. The more bits, the more memory the more processing power, etc... the more money. So basically, 255 is 8 bit and 127 is 7 bit. It's just a natural limit of computers and they cheaped out. In the case of the USB, it can be probably be fixed with new code (new firmware release), in the case of the gauge cluster, I doubt it.

I'm guessing you don't have kids you have to wait for in a parking lot for after-school activities. I do this all the time.... I agree with the OP this is one of those things I found odd when the 86 didn't do it. This is the first car I've owned in 20 years that didn't do this until the door was opened, and I'm not known for buying luxury cars.

![]() I guess I'm just used to Subarus not having this feature. Didn't have it in my 05 WRX, didn't have it in my 08 STI, don't have it in the 13 BRZ. Doesn't bother me, though. Maybe there's a way to wire up a relay to keep feeding the headunit power until the door is opened. |

Yea, not a big deal to me either, I was just surprised the first time it didn't work. No big deal to leave the ignition on if I want to use the electronics.

I haven't looked to see if we have the 81980-* turn signal relay, but this should be the replacement that will give you auto blink and LED compatibility. |

Why can't the BRZ have all the features, in total, that all the other cars?
