Everyone has a different number on the effect of sprung to unsprung weight. I most commonly hear between 4 and 8 to 1, not 20:1 (first time I've heard/seen that one)
Has anyone seen scientific proof for a particular ratio?

All i know is that when I had my miata with manual steering , I went from the very light stock rims to a cheap heavy larger rim and the steering felt like garbage. I feel keeping the rolling mass light can only help the way a car feels on the road.

Oops, i just saw the 100 spacing and assumed there was a 5 in front of it. Good to know the weights are fairly accurate. I'm big into biking and more often than not the manufacturers listed weights are pretty far off.
20:1 does seem a bit extreme. It makes sense that lighter wheels will improve a number of things, but there isn't really a good way to quantify it. Thanks for the responses. |

one thing I learned quick was with my Miata...I had manual steering and went from the 12lb 14" rims to a much heavier fat 15"rim setup that a friend had and the car felt much much heavier in the steering and made the car feel awful till I switched back to a lighter setup.
In my opinion, one should loose as much weight off the rims/tires as possible. :happy0180: |

Your tire's stickiness plays a big role in wheel feel too. My Konig/RS3 setup is a lot lighter than stock but feels a little heavier because of the adhesion of the wheels versus the prius tires that don't offer any resistance in turning (since their compound isn't sticky)

That's what I was thinking about running once my current tires wear out. Realistically they will look about the same as a mounted 225 except they would stick out an additional 5 mm? (Maybe a little less since the tread width isn't quite that straightforward)
