For $50 it might be worth it. I don't really NEED another cellphone and honestly, my family has for iOS devices right now (2x iPhone5, 2x iPad3's) so we're not getting away from that anytime soon.
Right now u can jailbreak any ios 6 and then wait for cydia "appradio extensions" update. That should let u use more apps.

I wish you could just mirror the OS, seems much simpler than just sharing an app.

I don't mind paying the 35$ to be free of chains. Plus supporting a developer who's worked hard at making a solution viable for the community is just fine for me.

If u have iOS (non-open os) unofficial apps will be the only options right now.

For ios users if they want they can make a donation to developers who offer solutions for free. Cant force a developer to charge.

I wish app stores was an option. I'm doing it wrong too. Like stated on past post. But if u already have appradio+ios there is hope.

OP Thanks for sharing. Great find.

Dual zone would be a deal breaker for me as well. I like the fact now that I can run my google maps on my GS3 and make a phone call and while talking on the phone using my bluetooth headset, I can get voice updates on driving without having to take my eyes off the road and while talking on the phone to a customer or conference call. If this radio supported that then I would have no problem.

One thing I noticed, I have a 250gb FAT32HD that is plugged into the USB on my older JVC unit, and if I watch heavy detailed or large movies, it buffers to shit! Cant hardly watch a movie because its lagging and skipping and stopping... sucks. So thats why I thought the streaming movies from netflix would be a little better, but unit it too old to mirror or do anything like that to.

JVC has a app radio too, but all the app radios I see on crutchfield mostly support apple and I hate apple.

Apparently it is dual zone capable. A google search yielded something called mixmode which allows the native head unit to play audio as well as audio from app mode. I will test this out tomorrow and let everyone know my results.

Been reading some reviews and looking around. I think I've found something that would work pretty good. Use the AppRadio2 and a MINIX NEO X5. It's larger than some of the "stick computers" but it has several USB ports, bluetooth, a full sized SD card slot, and a 3.5mm stereo adapater if you needed it for an aux in.

If the GPS is a passthrough like you say I could shove one of these under the drivers seat, run a HDMI cable up to the AppRadio, and hook an external USB hard drive up to it. I figure I could store offline maps on either the SD card or the USB HD. Since it's DC powered I'm sure I could rig up a direct 12V power supply to eliminate the wall wart.

Thoughts?

i highly recommend against appradio, i returned mine, it is an internet based radio and without service you are SOL, also there is no normal mode to play music from your ipod/device, you MUST be in app mode (a terrible glitchy app with little to no support by pioneer)

My phone has wifi hotspot so all I have to do is turn it on and I'm good.

Perhaps you had a different one.. the spec for SPH-DA100 states:

"RDS FM/AM radio tuner"
