I would think his suggestion would have been the other way around.. Since I'm not gonna do anything else, go with the 3" (??)
2.5" is already bigger than the stock pipe, so the 3" would look, dare I say it? Rice!
The 2.5" is lighter as has been mentioned.
The gasses contract as they cool so it should be smaller at the back not bigger.
Get the offset because it will be loud enough, where it should be and will harmonise better with the intake noise, not drown it out.

Harmonizing with the intake is one way of enjoying your exhaust...but I prefer to hear the exhaust down low and in the mid-range, then hear the sound of the intake take over at the high rpms. This way, you can enjoy each separately.

I'm currently running a Nameless 2.5" non offset axleback with a Perrin drop in filter and it sounds delicious but the general opinion seems to be the offset sounds even better because the sound is more balanced throughout the rev range.

Sorry, I didn't mean to confuse the issue.

I'll be running the Perrin CAI and the new 3" non offset Axleback soon. I'll try to post some sound clips when I can. After talking with Jason, the 3" OP/DP is going to be like a "turbo only" package because of the sound.

I'm fine with a 2.5" OP/DP as long as that crappy 2.1-2.2" midpipe goes, lol.

Trouble is the crappy centre pipe is light, the resonator works well to keep it quiet and it doesn't lose power.

The OEM mid pipe has a great resonator. Not getting that in the aftermarket.

I think Jason said they were testing the 2.5" and 3" midpipe with the Axleback to see if it gained power like their quad muffler setup did.

Going 3" while keeping everything else stock is super overkill, and it might even hamper performance slighty as you will be loosing some backpressure compared to the 2.5". It is not going to be a big deal, or really make much difference.

Let's put it this way, the 2.5 will be a better fit.

I prefer the 3" system because I like loud for one, but if I did end up with a 3" DP/OP which possibly not due to loudness and I want a header, I'll probably go with the 2.5" OP/DP.
I have to say I'm a little nervous on my decision to go with 3" offset axleback instead of 2.5" after reading some if this. My order is still being built, I assume, as the order shows "pending". I made the decision based on the potential to go turbo down the road, but that is going to be after the warranty expires and the turbo choices have been fully vetted. Should I have gone with the 2.5" since it will be stock for quite some time? I'm fairy new to this stuff, so any words of comfort for the noob.

I belive you'll be fine. It is not a huge deal of difference. It is a fact for stock, 2.5 will be better, but it really is no big deal.

If you honestly really want the 2.5 (and you ordered offset), I'll trade you my offset 2.5 at the March 9th Mega Meet and even throw you some cash on top of it. I will be going turbo in less than a two months.

"The axleback produces almost no peak HP but fills in the valley that is typical of this new direct injected boxer 4."

Straight from Nameless site. I don't think you have anything to worry about.
