1st track day

all in all a blast...

a couple of things
- pulsating brake pedal under hard braking, this needs work right now!
- VCS is the same as full traction control IMO.
- TCS off = most amount of fun.
- stay on the gas to stay away from understeer
- 2nd gear powerslides are more fun than learning how to ride a bike.
- notchiness going from 3rd to 4th, always.
- great seats, position, steering wheel, gearshift.
- Go to the track and push it = priceless

The pulsating under hard braking is your ABS kicking in.
If you get more serious about track days, the first things you should do is upgrade your brake pads, brake fluid to a dot 4 synthetic (Motul RBF600 is great), and good tires make a HUGE difference on these cars. Some Dunlop Direzza Star Spec 2 or Hankook RS3 tires aren't too expensive, and will dramatically improve your lap times If you put some better gear oil in the trans, it might eliminate the notchy shifting.

Track days are more addictive than any drug, and potentially more expensive once you start dumping money into your car, haha

late reply here, still learning how to use the forum....I'm old.

When I bought it (my 6yo son insisted) I was planning on a stock setup. Now that I spent some time on track. the AMEX has been pulled out.

Nameless is on order. and I'm trying get to the top of the list for a supercharger.

ordered a CF drive shaft before I bought the car but still waiting for it to arrive. takes a little longer when shipping to the Philippines.....

thanks for your comments and advice.

you might be right on the ABS, I did notice the pedal completely locked up hard when I spun and braked hard when moving backwards. Strange sensation. ABS doesn't work in reverse or I had differnt tires moving in different directions?!

but under hard braking everything felt spongy, not ABS intervention. I am waiting for a master cylinder bracket, might help.

What's a good tranny fluid?

I found lots of gas pedal from the Apex was most effective....

That is awesome... ABS kicking in is good, but you want to make sure you brake just prior to the ABS kicking in to get max stopping power

yes! but I didn't have to fight ABS on the hard braking. I was trying to go-kart it using the slide for more braking. What a blast. Check out Batangas Racing Circuit, for $300/year you can "run what you brung" as much as you want.

I found lots of gas pedal from the Apex was most effective....
Most likely the brakes felt "spongy" because the factory brake fluid was boiling, and/or your factory brake pads were too hot. The factory items work fine on street, but when pushed to the limits on track, they aren't designed to take the heat ranges of continuous hard braking lap after lap. The master cylinder brace won't do much. That's why I suggested swapping to an aftermarket brake pad like some Project Mu Club Racer pads, they will be fine on street, but on track they will bite MUCH harder than stock, and they won't fade/go mushy like the factory pads do. The brake fluid will have to be changed too so it can handle the extreme temps. That's why I also suggested a DOT4 Synthetic brake fluid like the Motul RBF600. It won't boil over on you, because if the fluid does boil, your brakes basically do nothing, and that's not a good feeling. I tracked my FR-S factory stock at Buttonwillow Raceway last year and the stock pads and fluid were done after several laps. I upgraded pads and fluid and it made a WORLD of difference. Don't waste money on the master cylinder brace. And as I mentioned, different tires will transform the car in a very good way!
