Nice Ichitaka, that is definitely what I was thinking of! The nutty car was in Japan when I am pretty sure it was a Domestic Tuner that did the more reasonable build.

Few light mods to remove those emissions reducing measures and I have faith it'll be an impressive engine in terms of power:displacement ratio. I think it'll challenge some of the older turbo cars too.

Wait I had no idea the 3S-GE was that powerful...REALLY? shit.
I don't know how much room the "FA20" has in terms of revs. I am calculating a rod-stroke ratio of 1.55 (factoring increased compression), which is okay, but engines revving to 8000 tend to have a higher ratio. I hope they sort out some sort of low restriction catalytic converter, or something. Maybe the problem is that Toyota wants SULEV II or whatever rating for this, when they don't have to score that high. Then there's the option of switching out stuff so it only meets the bare minimum. |

I'd lay off the engine mods until a more reputable tuner takes the plunge and does some testing through a race program or something of that sort. that way at least you know the mods have been given the hammer to prove reliability.

I am already getting the groundwork laid out... Fear not dear friends, I amy not be a race program, but I will take this thing to the 1/4 mile, 1/8th mile, road courses, and autox. It will be well represented and most likely run very very hard.

nice to see the beams 3sge get some recognition on here. in the japanese formula 3 series they made 300 hp n/a. one can only hope this new boxer has similar potential although you'd have to be seriously rich to afford a build like that and it would be unstreetable.

Then there's the fact they took the 2JZ out of the Supra for the GT500 and replaced it with a hypo 3S-GTE, mainly because it met their power requirements but also gave the car better dynamics. The 3S-G was a fantastic engine in both NA and FI form.
My mate actually has 2 Beams 3S's in his garage, haha. His daily is a turbo'd 4A powered KE70 sedan, and together we actually make aftermarket ECUs... mainly for Toyotas but we're going to do a few more popular models soon. Hopefully the engine management for the FT86 isn't combined with other car functionality, making it very hard to design an aftermarket ECU. With the design mentality they've had for the rest of the car I don't think this will be the case, but they seem to want to chuck most of the electronics in a couple of boxes these days, but make them only work if they're only plugged into each other. |
