True, but they're not going to go out of their way most of the time unless they get bulk orders, or unless it's an higher-end wheel that can be customized.

the problem is that there are very little SC kits out there that are properly designed. its really that simple. they either use old gen eaton roots blowers, or they dont have an integrated intercooler, or they use a vortech/non-rotrex style centrifugal kit with or without intercooler. ALL of those are NOT up to par with a turbo. i dont think anybody will disagree.

however im talking about the new age of supercharging. either a 6th gen eaton TVS or twin screw design. both offer adiabatic efficiency in the 70% range and some approaching 80%. they can run more boost, more efficiently. AND most modern kits have an integrated water-air intercooler.

so why doesnt anybody make they awesome kits for 4 cyl imports? CULTURE. the "import culture" has always embraced the turbo. maybe because the best imports (gtr, evo, sti, supra, rx7, etc) had factory turbos, maybe because the older gen SC's have a bad rep, etc. but the fact of the matter is, if you look at the domestics, they embrace the SC over the turbo. its part of their culture to slap a blower on. the result? AMAZING kits from lysholm, whipple, magnuson, vortech VTS, roush, edelbrock, kennebell, etc... again, not to say there are no turbo domestics, but if you want FI the common route is SC over turbo. for imports its turbo over SC.

so the bottomline is to not compare a well engineered turbo kit with a crappy second thought SC kit. the FACT remains that a SC will give you a better boost curve given MODEST boost levels. and those levels? they're increasing. it used to be if you go above 10-12 psi or whatever the SC would be so inefficient that you cant boost any more. nowadays? 15-20+ psi is simple and easy with more efficient lobe designs and integrated intercooling.

minimal lag is still lag. you cannot change this fact, lest you run WRC-style ALS on a street car. for some it makes a difference. for others it doesnt. the tq curve of a turbo engine will not be as flat as a SC. again, for some it matters and for some it doesnt

it may not be more efficient, but the efficiency is coming increasingly closer to a turbo. some SC literature/advertising even claim better efficiency. but i digress. its not always about efficiency. sometimes the boost curve/torque curve and the driveability of it is more important to you than numbers...
You are right except the bold.

BMW is the exception. R56 MCS and 335i have very very minimal lag, but the tq curve starts at 1500 and stays flat until 5krpm. The twinscroll and pressure system used is phenomenal and does wonders on a 1.6L DI motor.

For the millionth time I've posted this link here

There are lots of choices for 5 X 100

Think about this... Company xxxx sees that the fr-s suddenly becomes a popular car.. I think the company, being smart, will start releasing more variants in that size, because of the sudden interest. All major rim brands can have special order placed if you are really that desperate lol

yes, however there are still a small contingent of owners that still cant take the lag and still miss the 330i's NA character. i assume the dyno doesnt tell the whole story and/or they are simply being too critical/biased. whatever. its a personal thing. also as that dyno shows, you give up the top end for all that lag reduction...

im not against turbos, i have one and i love them too. but to dismiss the modern SC at lower boost levels is just being closed minded...

i like the look of deep offsets and concave faces as well. but to get a concave face you typically need at least 17x9, which would prob be a little overkill unless you really boosted this thing no?

In your words, "minimal lag". That means they still have lag. For those of us that prefer, or insist upon n/a or SC "instantaneous" feeling, turbo's still can't cut the mustard. Personally, I hate the BMW N54 and N55 because they have so little lag it ends up feeling like there's a hiccup in the ECU tune rather than a properly substantial turbo. If I'm going to suffer with a stupid laggy turbo gas engine, I want the turbo to be big enough to actually feel like a turbo. BMW approach is flawed in that they're trying to emulate an n/a engine, which you cannot do, no matter how much technology you throw at the turbo at this point in time.

I see you're confusing "lag" with "boost threshold". It's nice that modern DI Turbo gas engines are approaching the lush low-RPM torque of Diesels, but that is describing the boost threshold, not the lag, which is the time delta between requested torque and delivered torque while the turbo is within its operational range. Turbo's that are allowed to spool down will always have lag, regardless how amazing their boost threshold is.

This is the primary reason the FT-86, or any high-strung n/a engine, will be significantly more fun than anything BMW can barf out of their werks with their current flawed philosophy.

The Sedan... should be the same.... key word is "SHOULD".

Not sure about USA Corolla...

5 x 100 is a slap to tuners..... I'm not saying 5 x 100 is "limited".... but there are more offsets at 5 x 114.3.

Yeah here in the US they're 5x100. I wish the bolt pattern on the FR-S was 5x114.3, but I can live with 5x100...no use in complaining about what's already been done.

LOL

whatever the bolt pattern is, it was set in stone years ago. No going back, no j/k.
