Relax cowboy.... if there is no lag then cool... I'm pretty sure I stated in other posts on this thread that I was a sc/tc noob. Just going off what I've heard about TC's that there is a certain amount of lag no matter what due to the engine having to rev up/spool up the TC. If I'm wrong or read that there was lag somewhere, then my fault... don't kill the "questioner"... lol.

Turbo's by definition have lag. The question is simply how much lag a particular system has. The biggest misconception seems to be the confusion between boost threshold and lag, while interrelated they are different metrics. It would of course behoove the manufacturers of these turbo kits to provide threshold and lag data, then the misconceptions about specific kits would be cleared up.

The size of the turbo on this car is perfect. All of our customers love the way it responds.

Did you guys use a gasket between the downpipe and the exhaust housing on the turbo?

We've installed hundreds of turbo kits and never used a gasket between there.

I did put a very thin layer of RTV on the DP just for good measure, as I have found that can prevent small leaks.

Adding a gasket definitely won't hurt anything if it gives you piece of mind.

Yeh, if you choose to use a gasket. I would use the ATP one, any metal gasket is better then the composite ones. From the looks of the pics, the garrett ones look like a composite design. |

Thanks. I am almost 100% sure, but I just wanted to verify that the outlet of the GT2871R turbo in the kit is 2.5" and not 3".

Turbo design is not really something that manufacturers have really changed for years and years, the real changes come in efficiency of the turbo as applied to a certain car or build. Today turbo kit manufacturers all have similar goals to produce power in large quantities, but they also try to make kit's that are useful to people like me who DD their cars. I am sure there will be kits in the making that will strap huge turbos to this car to make even more power which will sacrifice turbo response for peak output, but for the time being that seems to be a ways off. |
