Ive got roughly 4,300 miles on my fr-s. Ive had the idle issue for a while and have had dip enough to almost shut the car off. Also has anyone else had any trouble with starting up? I got into my car last week on a colder day and it took about 2 seconds or so to fire up. That scares me !

Mine has the same issue and only with the compressor on. Hopefully there is a fix because it drops down to about 500rpm and the car starts to shake a bit like it's going to stall. Very annoying.

What you describe sounds just like mine. But what catches me is that mine only happens about once a month when I use A/C almost everyday. And when it happens, it keeps doing that until I turn the engine off. When I turn the engine back on, it doesn't do it anymore...

Does it happen every time you have the compressor on?

It seems like every time. I'm not even using the AC, it just turns on automatically for defrosting purposes. If I press the AC button it goes right away (but then my windows fog up ). I've also noticed that once it happens, it pretty much happens at every stoplight.

My idle in A/C compressor modes has improved. Just turned over 3300 miles. It doesn't act like it wants to stall and then kick up to 1000 rpm. Just minor rpm fluctuations. Maybe a 200 rpm.

I have a manual and have around 4,000 miles and it has done that dipping from the start. Took it to the dealer and they can't do anything unless it throws a code....I ride ALL the time with the auto climate OFF and run my seat heater...very annoying,...thinking about getting another vehicle...and not a Subaru or Toyota..

Which other Toyota do you own? Does it have DI? PI?

I've read in a Japanese message board that Toyota admits the idling RPM going up and down when the compressor goes on and off is abnormal. They fix it by updating/replacing ECU. I really wish there is better communication between Japan and U.S., so that we don't get response like "We can't do anything unless the CEL comes on".

Note: This is not abour RPM going between 630-680. That's normal. It's about RPM going 500-800 and when it drops to 500, I can feel a little bit of shake.

Mine does the 500-800 thing even when the AC is off.

Your car stalled 15 times on the way to work?? As in engine shut off and you had to restart it? I would have had Subaru on the phone, bring me a free rental and tow my car back to the dealer after 3 times. Please tell me you don't actually mean that it stalled but rather that the idle dropped?

well it stall. basically, as soon as i let my foot off the throttle, the rpm drop to below idle and the engine die. this happen as i coast to a stop regardless if my transmission is in gear or in neutral.

so i was able to limp it to the dealership. they said their feild engineer drove the car and attribute the problem to my aftermarket parts.

my car have Perrin crank pulley, ACT clutch kit, and AEM intake. they specificlly said unless i switch back to stock parts they are not going to warranty the parts.

as a result, I have made an arrangement with AEM to take a look at the intake before i put the stock intake back on.

here is a little mod history.

at 2.5K i have ACT clutch kit installed.
at approx 6 K i had perrin crank pulley installed.
at approx 10K i had AEM intake installed.

PS. after the AEM intake was installed, the engine response to a specific RPM range was shifted upward, for example, i usually pull 6th gear at 75 miles at approx 3200 rpm in stock form. while with the AEM intake, i am pulling the same speed in 6th gear at 3500 RPM. my corresponding MPG per tank does decrese by 1-2 MPG after the intake was installed. however that after the first unexpected stall happended 2 days ago, the RPM which corrosponds to the specific RPM seems to droped back to stock setting. last night i opened the intake cover to check for anything unusual, and nothing was found.

I have a hard time believing that an intake would change the engine speed/vehicle speed correlation. The gearing would have had to change for that to happen.

With that said, the majority of those running an aftermarket intake reported bogging issues (myself included). However after a tune, those issues were no longer present.
