I don't know if I agree and based on which GTI a person is coming out of. The power and turbo will be missed climbing into the 86 or BRZ.

The golf is amazing, incredible all round car, does absolutely everything well! Also obviously has TONS of power. Just for me not quite as much fun as the 86, didnt give me the same sporty feeling, just the feeling that I was driving a VERY good car.
Admittedly the golf isn't mine though so probably wasn't as willing to push it really hard especially through corners.

Not really a spotted post, but thought this was too classic not to share:
Just been out for dinner with friends. When we came out there was a Ferrari 575 standing outside. Two guys were coming in with two VERY hot chicks and stopped to look at it. The one girl says, "I'd much rather have the white one over there" (my 86)!
