It did seem to get the 'butt-dyno' to register a bit of an improvement. However, I do still have the crickets (slightly) due to the ethanol content. I did fill up with Chevron for the first time this weekend (car's 2 month old) and I don't think that I heard the same level of chirping as before with the 'top-tier' Nitrogen-enhanced Shell.

Just curious, where exactly is this 76's selling 100 octane fuel? The only place I've ever seen a gas station selling this was at Sonoma raceway. I too have thought about doing the whole blend thing but never knew where to get 100 oct. Really just more curious about how the car runs when it gets the fuel it was meant to have. I think the car runs just fine with 91, but I guess I don't know what I'm missing.

I get it from the 76 quickie mart on the corner of Orangeburg and Coffee in Modesto, then fill up with the Shell 91 across the street. I haven't filled up that many times, so I haven't quite gone mad yet going back and forth. I have used it in several cars for autocross fuel loads in earlier cars with pleasant results.

I would simply +1 to exactly what vubaru stated above. I have only blended to calculated average of 93, no more. As agreed and stated already, its a waste for anything above 93, but I liked a smoother running, accelerating car (even though only modest gains, at best) for the 93 blend from 100/91. I will actually try Chevron 91 by itself for the next couple of tanks to see if the ECU 'adjusts' and if I can even tell...

It has only been a few tanks (2450 miles), but I wanted to give the car it wanted most. As Pmok pointed out, the 91 is an allowance, while 93 is preferred. I agree with Blanewashere that octane is not as important as quality, but I wanted to try it out.

With all that said, I will fill up with Infineon's 'hi-test' for giggles next time I'm out there.

Observation: emptied out the tank with Sunol's 100 octane (did no good except got rid for the crickets). Woohoo for the miles w/o crickets! Got down to just above the line with the light on, on Sheridan/Andrade (Sunol's 3 min of twisties). Refilled with ($40 ~3/4 tank) of Sunol's 94 octane. Parked for a min and listened as the crickets returned. Went from 'valve job knocking noise' to crickets. Then I stared at the engine while it was running...so someone tell me if the pulley/balancer is suppose to vibrate 2+mm off center, it's left of the intake (there's 2) and the lower one of the two? I looked at all the pulleys/balancers assoc with the belt, only this one was dancing. I'd post the 30sec vid I have but you car guys should be able to tell. Left of the intake, lower of the 2 that's there.

I think it supposed to do that, the pulley is actually spring mounted, which allows it to vibrate. It was the first place I looked & wd40'd when I started to hear the crickets, lol.

Curious if anyone is interested in bleeding their brakes? I have SS and speed bleeders coming and going to do a swap. I picked up a pressure bleeder to help with the job. If you're interested, make Friday or Saturday out of it.

Oh heck, if you wanna borrow Motive's Powerbleeder, shoot me a pm. Of course that would be after me. It has the universal adapter since they don't have one that fits our reservoir (we tested a few). I like the universal - fits other reservoirs. Fits other cars

already bled my brakes last Dec and installed speed bleeders ... not too hard to do really. I didn't go for SS lines but I might do a MCB at some point... I heard it makes as much if not more difference than SS lines.
