We will find out soon. I think it was GM or Dodge that recently released that they were starting development on a car to compete with the twins.

I am really loving this thread. Even after all the explanations, the flames keep burning. Classic. With this much passion, we would have solved world hunger in the last 2-3 days.

Anyways, I'm going to go start my car now and wrestle with 1st, 2nd and 5th gear in my 2500 mile odo car. Pentosin.. Here I come. Thanks gmhooker!

Enjoy your day friends.

Yea, but you can say that about a lot of cars. You buy the Buick Verano for its unique sound insulation. If you buy it for any other reason it's not worth the money. Same for the old Ford Ranger. You buy it for its pickup bed. It's small, not powerful, can really only fit two passengers, doesn't even have 4 wheel drive, etc.

It comes back to the old riddle: what's worth more in the desert--a gallon of water or a pound of gold?

I know that it counts as a thread hijack...but it has to be said.

Not in a million years could GM do this. It would be like a chicken giving live birth.

I'm sorry *if* I made anybody in here feel BAD about the car. That was never my intention. I was just trying to express my frustrations with certain aspects about the FT86 platform in the most spontaneous way. Not always a good thing. (:

I LIKE this car. I tell everybody I know who has one that it was a GOOD purchase. I know that only true "gear heads" would drive this car long term. I plan on keeping it LONG TERM. Honestly, there was a big part of me that agreed with the review by Dezoris because it hit home in many ways. I could have just as easily bought something else, but this was the most unadulterated car I could find in the price range that would be easily suitable for modding without feeling bad about how much money I spent at the end of the day. I could have easily bought a Cobra and been happy with the way it was from the factory, but where is the fun in that?

Anyways, before anybody labels me an asshole for life (I hope not, lol).. I just wanted to clear this up.

Thank you all for your contributions to the forum.

Nah, I don't think anyone hates you. Maybe the older guys are just used to life throwing curveballs and don't see it as a big deal. Poor Boeing: the whole fleet of 787 Dreamliners are grounded because of lithium ion batteries. The F22 Raptor sometimes has problems with its oxygen systems, causing some Air Force pilots to black out. Nikon's flaship D800 DSLR has issues with one of its focus points that doesn't work. They sent five months of production of a 3,000 dollar camera down the assembly line with this problem. Apple, for the second time in a month, shut down Java on all Macs because Oracle can't fix their product. I need Java to do work each night. I found some Unix commands that reenabled Java on my machine. Workarounds are just part of life.

You think this trans is notchy? HAHAA!! again take a wrx out in any temp and get back to us on that. Or a BW T5 trans (in fairness to compare rwd to rwd box). I've never come across one that wasn't notchy or didn't grind from 1st to 2nd when cold.

For living in a place that doesn't have a harsh winter we have some SHITTY roads in VB.. and I dont hear one creak, rattle or clunk out of this car over the worst of road surfaces. My wrx.. sounded like a bag of bolts and soda cans over every little pebble in the road.

This car for being as minimal as it is (as it was designed to be, it is just a $24K car) .. is put together pretty well.

Granted, I just got mine in December so a lot of the production mishaps have been cleared up. I only have 2900 mi on it so far so I really haven't gotten much wear into it yet.. but at the same mileage/age my more expensive WRX sounded like it was falling apart.

No car is perfect but to expect $50K car traits in a $24K car is just stupid.

If that's your opinion stick to the civic. Seriously. Dont bother. If you think $25k is huge money in the car market you've got a lot to learn. I'll refrain from personal insults but the bullshit here is gettin thick.

You're getting $25k worth of car with a FRS. If you're questioning that you dont fully understand what this car is to the car world and what it represents. It has the same sort of soul that old lotus's and porsches have, that MGB's and triumph's had.. its raw, its light and its fun.

If that cannot be grasped and all that's wanted is all that other foo foo plush bullshit then go by a fucking accord. Soulless drivers deserve soulless cars.
i know what it represents! i've driven the car ,and it's junk! in my view! granted,it does what it does well! i am NOT disputing this,it's why i am considering purchasing it,but i just don't believe it's built very well, and i have expressed this already.if you don't agree, that's "kewl" i respect your opinion.
as far as me having a lot to learn? i have driven just about everything available to drive, over 45 years and i KNOW for a fact you can buy cars that cost LESS than this "crap" that ARE better built! i know what i am talking about. yes! my civic is one of them! it went out at $17,800.00. car's an anvil!..bulletproof! they been buildin' 'em for over 40 years lets see how long this f**kin' brz/frs lasts.

I've seen many a civic apart at my buddies body shop. They're not anvils by any standard. No modern car is. The FRS IS about as well built as modern cars are coming. Get used to it.. or keep buying older cars.
They're all designed to be light and rigid but come apart and dissipate energy in a crash. That equates to being built out of pressed tin foil glued together at the edges. They're not built to last, they're built to be replaced like plastic cups.

But that's ok, stick with it if it does what you need it to do.
