New Wheels/Tires, No TPMS?
Quick question. I've had alot of experience with TPMS systems, I've mounted thousands of sets of tires/wheels, and in my experience when you remove the TPMS sensors from the car, the light comes on. I put my new wheels and tires on last week, I have driven approximately 40 miles since then and my TPMS light has never came on. I did not move the sensors from my stock wheels to my new wheels. I did not dismount them, but I was literally 15 miles from the shop for 2 hours the other day and the light never came on. Anybody have any input on this?

Well for me at least, sometimes it takes a few days for the light to come on. Especially
if you are only driving like 5 or 10 minutes at a time. It will eventually come on after a little bit longer drive. |

Where are your stock wheels? I've heard that the sensor range on them is what keeps the light from going off, even if the wheels are off the car. If you keep the car near them, it probably "tricks" it into thinking that everything's fine (since it is...but those wheels aren't on the car) for quite a distance.

Why didn't you transfer them ? If your rims are larger in size, the TPMS should still fit if you're going up one size (17 --> 18), no ?

As a tech, I personally despise TPMS sensors, they go bad, they deteriorate and cause leaks, mounting my front tires was a bitch and if I had sensor issues down the road, I'd be dismounting them to check them, etc. I own a shop, my car is parked next to an air compressor, I can check my tire pressure and add air whenever I want.

I put winter wheels on my car and my dash light only comes on during longer trips (25+ miles). I park my car next to my summer wheels with tpms every night, so that might reset it every day.

^This. They only come on after about 25+ miles. I had my summer(no TPMS) wheels on for about a week. I commute about 33 miles to work. At about the exact same point in my trip every morning the light would flash and come on. Get back in the evening and park near my winter (with TPMS) tires in the garage and they would reset to start the cycle over again.

Mine took a couple of weeks before they came on.
I keep my sensors inside the house and away from the garage. The light comes on solid when I turn the car on, and sometimes flashes for 30 seconds at the start before it goes solid (which is what it should do, 30 seconds of flashing, then stays on solid after). I'm guessing it takes the computer a while to scan and check for signals, and since there is no low pressure signal, or any other signal, it finally gets tripped into no sensor mode.

It's funny how some tpms works, mine did not come on for about 100 miles... and only comes on if im driving longer than about 30 miles straight. once it comes on it will stay on randomly blinking some times, then will go off again until I drive longer distances.

Will the TPMS light make you fail an inspection?
Will it hurt anything having it on? When I get my BRZ I'm definitely swapping the rims, but will probably do the gauge electrical tape trick to stop the light from bothering me. |

I have my winter wheels/tires on and the tpms sensors sitting in the stock wheels/tires in the basement.
Some mornings I will start the car and have no light. It will come on right around 15 miles into my commute. TPMS appears to be useless. |

I've got snows on my stock wheels, with the sensors in a bag waiting for new summer wheels/tires and the light comes on right away. It flashes for the first couple minutes, then stays on solid.
