On lunch or something, do these 3 check for me.
  • pop the hood & check & see all the belts are tight & not loosen or broken
  • triple check again the gas cap (open it & close it again).
  • start the car again and see if it pop again or start up without problem.
Cuz sometimes even you think, noise came from near, but sometimes it's actually from the front. When gas cap & CEL lights came on, prob rear... but you never know

Before I forget, I had the worst dream ever last night....

Wait for it.....

I bought a fucking FRS!!!
And for some reason the car was in a pewter/grey color. And it was snowing when I brought it back home so I got to have some fun with it.

Is this some type of premonition I'm having? Let's hope not.

Clearly a Scion rep broke into your sub conscience and gave you an idea...and that idea grew into a FR-S. I would get someone to help train some security for your sub conscience so this type of thing doesn't happen again.

Ok just checked everything and its all fine but lights still came on. Gas cap light went off half way home but engine light stayed on. Going to check it out more tomorrow. I don't have a boyfriend or a car guy around so this is why I have you guys! Lol. Still just trying to learn all of this stuff.

One of the reasons I looked away from VW when I was first in the market for a new car. Those horror stories of electrical problems! Heh, but yeah, that's why we're here! Or we just have nothing better to do except talk 86s. Also, iirc, didn't you say you had a boyfriend at one point?

Well, even everything is fine now doesn't turn off CEL (sometimes). Go to autozone or some auto parts shop, they should be able to pull the code out for you.

I have obd2 reader in my car... but sadly you live WAY too far from me lol

So let us know when you get the code

I was hesitant about the vw at first but I couldn't wait for the BRZ because my truck died. Sister has a Jetta so I was already familiar with the car. It's such a fun car though! And I did have a bf. the war took him away. Don't want to get into it.

Just based on what you describe, the first check gas cap light may indicate there is a pressure loss on your fuel line so that light went on. Once that is the case, the CEL will come up. Sometimes for check gas cap light you can just open and tie the cap securely (hear at least three clicks when turning) and it went away. The CEL light may/will stay there until someone clears it.

If you go to the dealership, they probably will ask you to do a full fuel-line pressure check for a day to see if there is a leak. That test itself is somewhat expensive ($80 - $100 maybe). Just like other said, you should see if you can find someone to pull the code first to determine the cause. Sometimes the CEL light may go away after a night cool down so the best course of action to wait and see for tomorrow. If the CEL is still on, get someone to pull the code first and see the seriousness of the code. Then you can decide whether to go to the dealer for a more thorough check on your fuel-line system.

Disclaimer: I am in no way a mechanic, but I have had similar situation happened to me before.
