Seeing as there is no error in the speedo, I would say the 86/BRZ may be using the ABS/TC sensors in the wheel's to get the speed, so modifying the driveline, apart from the wheel sizes, should not affect the speedo in any way. Of course I could be wrong, but if I was Toyota and wanted to cut cost's that's the way I would measure speed.

This is definitely a mod on my TO DO list. It will make it into more of a "Type R" kind of car.
You're right. My bad. Thanks for the correction.

Just the FD right; stock gearset yeah?

Impact on MPH would be nice to see. Want to know how much more gas spinning 500ish revs higher is going to burn. I would hate to be my neighbors if I had that FD; loud even at 20mph part throttle LOL!

The auto trans cars could really use this, i checked toyota pricing on the oem final drive sets and even at 20% off list price they were pretty expensive.

Today I left from a traffic light and my neighbor was behind me in his 370Z. He didnt catch me until I was in 5th gear. He later asked....." wow so you DID do the turbo huh?" I told him..NO, had I done a turbo you'd be reading an EMAIL right now asking you WHAT HAPPENED ! " I told him I did the FD and he was BLOWN away that he had to chase me for that long and in my draft no less.

I think this is a very subtle BUT major mod. As the modified NA cars approach 250 crank HP a mod like this REALLy does well. Its fun to extract as much from this original platform as possible.

Some quick back roads today made it super clear that the shorted FD makes for quick spurts of acceleration in short distances and the off corner response is amazing.

Light weight flywheel, CF driveshaft and headers will be the icing on the cake.

I love the direction you guys are taking your car. Do you guys plan to do cams, springs and retainers when they become available? It would be pretty rad to have that fd on an engine that revs and makes power at 8-9k rpm to round out the car.

Totally agree. I just would need assurance the AT software wouldn't be screwy with it.... OR drive in manual mode all the time. Love the idea of this modification.

Great to see your experiences with the 4.55 final drive, but holy cow is anybody else stoked about the close ratio gearset? I am loving that taller 1st gear! This is happening.

Nice write up. Got to stop wanting to spend money. I still need to call you and setup getting springs installed!

yeah cams would be sweet and if it got rid of the "VALLEY" in the dyno curve...yeah it would be worth it for THAT alone. As long as someone could tune the car with cams so it doesnt loose toomuch if any bottom end, that too would be nice.

Just revving to 7800 would be nice if its still making power up past 7500.

But something tells me cams will be SUPER costly. But then again.....I chose not to turbo charge so the road less traveled.......has more tolls !

Most of the tunes make power at 7600 still and cut at 8000. I wouldn't push my luck over 7400 too often without valve train work. Don't know enough yet...

Another option for people not wanting to do a final drive replacement is to run smaller diameter tires on the track. You could still go wide, just run smaller than stock to increase the ratio a bit. It won't be as drastic unless you go to a 16" wheel, but it's an option and you don't sacrifice anything since you can swap back to stock size.

15" rally/gravel wheels in WRX fitment should fit too. Not many people will do that though.

I'd like to do this FD down the road and it's an OEM Toyota part so I'm not worried about reliability...I'd want that 1st/2nd set too, but if I'm cracking the case it HAS to get stronger components too. Granted I don't ever suspect I'll make enough N/A power to bust gears; I prefer to overbuild.
