He's not the only one who has been married either.. that doesn't hold much water. Women make decisions based on the scent in the wind and what color shoes they're wearing.

objective decision making is (in general) NOT something women are good at. Now if you want a flowery or overly emotional irrational response .. well then now you know the gender to ask.

edit; Keep in mind also there is a strict difference between intuition.. and logic. Women dont have the latter, its missing in their programming. lol

I have been married 2x and I'm not a bigamist!

Again your initial impression and your emotions are big factors here, and the mechanical failure is an outstanding event in your mind right now. That said, perhaps logic is irrelevant in this case.

I really like the Outback and it's on my wife's list of possibilities when her Rav4 lease ends this Dec.

My 99 L wagon had 212k when I sold it... going strong. My brother's WRX has been very problem free and he's running Stage 2.

The headgasket thing was a design problem that was fixed. Just like Toyota has (probably?) fixed the engine sludge problems that plagued the Gen3 Camrys with the 5S-FE and 1MZ(I think, I had the 5S-FE so I remember it's engine code better). Ford has probably fixed the spark plug thread tear out issue some of the older SUV's had.

No company is immune to design issues. Most of them will fix the issues. Overall I think Subaru does okay. My Camry leaked oil like a sieve with only 120k miles on it. Doesn't mean Toyota overall isn't a very well put together car. Likewise, I have friends that swear by VW's. Doesn't mean they haven't had more than their share of reliability issues. Personal experience with one vehicle is rarely a good measure. It can sour your personal feel for the brand though. I'll never buy a Chrysler product because the minivan we had when I was a kid grenaded itself and we had to sell the boat I LOVED to afford a replacement. Scarred for life.

If it weren't for the FR-S I still would have never set foot on a Subaru dealership. I do have to say that after taking delivery of my FR-S there was that rattle in the back that seems so common but after a short while it has left the premises and other than that one little glitch my FR-S has been perfect. Of course, the fact mine wasn't made until August probably helped a lot.

^ I second that.. German cars are fun to play with and give back.. but not ones I'd ever want to keep.

Unless its old and aircooled.

Had 2 Subaru Justys, an 88 GL, a 2003 WRX, and a 2008 STi and I couldn't have been happier with all of them. I had no issues whatsoever. In fact after owning 32 other cars in my lifetime, my Subarus have been the most reliable of them all.

Still better than Ford and all their new cars with 1.6t engine blowing up and catching on fire

I always saw Subaru as the least reliable Japanese company but still much much better than most.

I'd say the crank walk and other issues on some older Mitsus are worse myself.

Very very true I forgot all about Mitsu.

I take that back Mitsu first than Subaru but in all honestly its about how the cars were cared for and dealers don't really give cars the love they deserve

Not sure whether to take this as an attack towards me being a woman because I'm somehow getting this "women are dumb" kind of vibe from this post.

However, that could apply to other women and I'm not taking this seriously. hah.

Anyways back to the topic. I feel like this might have been one of the few circumstances where you just get that car that just falls into the shitter. Also most people will judge on their first experience. Its like going into a restaurant for the first time then getting food poisoning the following day. I don't think you'd want to go back after that experience.

Lonewolf has a point in saying "subaru is unreliable" I feel like its just now a distrust in the brand because of that one vehicle. Which in turn will just be... gotta test more cars from subaru to see if they are reliable or test more cars from subaru to see if it will fail like the first. Rebuilding trust is now what's going to happen from now if he does decide to test drive again.

Me on the other hand... I would go back and test drive another car. Then bring up that incident to get a better deal on the car I'm looking at. haha
