I look forward to a photo of the WeatherTech mats for a comparison.

Bought a set of WT DigitalFit today. Those comparing these mats to your run of the mill, one-size fits all, $20 walmart mat has no clue of just how much better the WeatherTech's fit and protect.

If you have never had Weathertech Digitalfit mats before, you have to see them - maybe even use them - before you understand how superior they are to these cheapo one-size-fits-all Walmart mats.

The mat pictured above gives the impression of being solid rubber, and that's good. All that ribbing also gives the impression that it will 'channel' the water away from the sides. However....

  • There is a very shallow lip. Water and other various bodily fluids can (and do) slop over the edge and onto your carpet.
  • The mat covers 90% of the carpet area, but leaves the dead pedal, 2.5" of empty space on the left side and roughly 1" on the right side completely exposed. Think of what happens when you get in your car with muddy/slushy/wet shoes, where do your feet pass over?
  • The bottom of the mat has the same shallow lip as the sides, but water will always flow down from the top to the bottom. If there is too much water it will pool up at the bottom and slop over the edge especially under acceleration (ask me how I know this).
  • Cleaning this carpet can only be accomplished when it is dry or nearly dry - good luck taking it out without slopping some of the crap onto your car.

I don't see the value in spending $20 on a mat, then spending money and effort cleaning the carpets out every couple of weeks.

But I understand that, sometimes, 5 big macs are better than a good steak dinner.
