This. Hopefully these shed value as quickly as the C6s did.

Yes, like the C6, C5, and C4. The C7 comes with a fully painted carbon fiber targa top. There are optional tinted glass and partially painted carbon fiber roofs as well.

Partially painted carbon fiber, as seen on the launch car. Personally I'd have the full paint or wrap the section between the carbon fiber and the rear glass in CF vinyl.

WTF? How I never knew that? What a shame. Its the first time I get to know all Corvette Coupés were Targas. LOL. I don't even know how that is possible. Maybe because where I live there are very few Corvettes and I have never seen one with roof taken away?

I agree. Swoopy curved front and sides that look nice with an ugly Cadillac-like rear treatment. It's like two different cars. I guess this is better than the some of the Saab's though, they were like three different cars, front, middle and rear.

GM offered the C5 in a Fixed Roof Coupe built off of the convertible in 1999 and 2000 with the LS1, stick only, and I believe Z51 suspension. This car was a notchback with a trunk. Then in 2001, they took that body and made it the Z06 and gave it bespoke suspension and the LS6. The C6 Z06 and ZR1s both had fixed roofs. However, unlike the C5 Z06, they retained a rear hatch. The Z06 had a painted Sheet Molded Composite (plastic, like the rest of the body) painted roof that initially had a habit of becoming unbonded from it's frame and flying off. The ZR1 had a carbon fiber roof panel and halo. The weight savings were negligible as SMC is already fairly light.

Joined. Had to give up my 86 dreams so will be back market for a new car in 2 years. Hopefully to be in a C7 by then.

Unlike the C4 which was designed to have a roof structure but was turned into a targa at the last minute, the C5-7 were all designed to be basically an open top car from the beginning. The fixed roof cars did gain some strength for having a closed top but really most of the car's torsional stiffness comes from the large, fully boxed transmission tunnel.

You can see the plate (aftermarket in this case) which closes the center tunnel of a C5 or C6 in this link

another thing that makes the carbon roof stupid is that the paint on that thing is like six figures per gallon iirc

The paint on the old CF roof was that expensive (well one part of it). That isn't to say the new process isn't cheaper. GM said they had pushed a lot of cost out of things like the CF parts and the alloy chassis.

I am sad to see the wood floors going away. The balsa core used on the C5 and C6 is now replaced with an expanded structural foam. I thought it was cool that the Corvette was the only volume car to use wood as a structural part. Yes, there was wood in the car's interior. It was under your feet.
