no need to apologize dude, you did nothing wrong and you're information wasn't exactly wrong either.
Your right that the harness mounting point should be higher, having it at 45 degrees from the shoulder center point isn't exactly recommended even if its within specs. Your right that the forward bars should be straight and pass through the dash to insure top safety for the driver, rather than have z bends which are at risk of buckling during a crash. So its not exactly recommended even if its acceptable. Even so, SCCA and NASA and other associations outside of japan doesn't allow that style of z bends anyway unless its for spec racing which isn't exactly competitive.

looks like it has all been discussed. legal or not, this car does not look safe. maybe the things individually are okay (at best) but the garbage cage combined with a 4 pt harness (google submarining) and a stock seat? it seems to cater more to people chasing the racecar look.

Don't like the roll cage design. Very obtrusive. Aftermarkets can bring out much better designs.

I trust data over my own eyes most of the time, and if FIA with its strict guidelines say its safe and does a proper job at protecting a driver, im inclined to believe them. Although im more to be inclined to favor NASA and SCCA race specs personally. Anyway the point is, one make races or other spec races internationally do not allow forward bars that pass through the dash. Which is why most spec racing in japan, from one make s2k, miata, CTR, ITR, GTR, etc...with approved FIA and JAF race gear is seen as awkward to us. Case in Point Cusco Safety 21 roll cages look horribly unsafe and bolt on for that matter, but they also have data to support that the cages have kept the drivers safe, which is why they are approved for such events. NASA doesn't offer the data to suggest that they are wrong, but why bother risking it in the first place. Check this S2k out..rolled several times down an embankment (70ft)car mangled, but the shitty looking bolt on cusco cage stayed intact and saved a life... Not saying NASA and SCCA are better than FIA or JAF, just saying that the cage in the BRZ RA is not as shitty as it seems, and is enough support to save your life in an accident, despite our better judgement.

Can't wait till they begin to import that roll cage into the usa, but it probably won't meet usa standards.

If i remember right, Toyota was talking about building the dashboard so it would require no modifications to it should be a cage should be installed that used a forward pass through dash bar. If your looking to get into majority of US sanctioned races with an OEM cage, thats the one you should look for as long as it offers harness bars. Otherwise your best bet is to go custom or get autopower to offer a spec cage for us.

Rollcage in a car designed for part time street use and with a standard seat belt and reclining seats still in it? Ugh, my skull aches just thinking about it.
I'm assuming they can't get it legalised but at minimum that should be harness only, a proper fixed back racing bucket and padding on the cage as standard. Big steel bars don't interact well with unhelmeted and comparatively unrestrained heads in an accident. |

I'm not talking an end of year/model parts bin clearing ie., 2007/10 STi Limited, 2006-7 WRX TR, 2013 WRX/STi pumpkin edition, etc... I'm talking a full fledged "special" car ie 95 STi RA, 99 RB5, S202/03/04, R205, etc.. Give me any RA, Spec C, Type R/Ra-R, etc.. Give me real, significant, different trims of WRX/STi to choose from and a "special" car that puts the others to shame. |

It will have OEM fit and finish but won't stray from the aftermarket approach of install. You could prolly get two, more complete aftermarket kits and still have money left over compared to the cost of this piece. |
