i get the same smell whenever i drive a little hard. and im at 18k. I actually had to search for a thread like this because just a minute ago the smell was very strong. Doesnt seem to be to serious from what i have read. still a way to go before warranty expires so im not to worried.

I also get this burning. My car is at 3500 and has been parked for over two months. Last weekend I pulled it out for the "fire it up every three weeks" and I smelt the burning again. Popped the hood and there were faint wisps -o- smoke coming from the exhaust/trans area on the passenger side. Again, this isn't the first time, but I'm not sure if I can attribute it to dust on something that gets hot or perhaps something builds/congeals since it sits around for weeks inbetween starts, but I am a little concerned over it.

Its just like dropping a thanksgiving dump in a brand new toilet, expect it to stink for a few weeks.

I know what you guys are refering to (worked in a quality dept at the prior OEM I worked for and have driven literally hundreds and hundreds of brand new cars at many assembly plants), but we're way past that period for these cases. Something is burning, and I'm curious as to what it is. Read the thread as some people are getting this with more than 10k miles. |

I can smell the clutch every time I slip it for more than half a second. Like, just going up my driveway will do it. It's gotten much less noticeable as the miles have gone up, and we're up to about 1500 now.

I don't think it's a big deal, I think it's just normal. New clutches need time to bed in.

I had the burning smell originally when I first got the car, and it went away. Now I've just hit over 2K miles and I'm getting a new (different) burning smell whenever I start up the car (like burnt rubber or asphalt?). Anyone getting the same problem?

I've had my car for 5 months and it has 4000 miles on it and I still get a burning smell (smells like burning motor oil to me) I even saw smoke coming out from under the hood one time after a short drive to work (less than 10 minutes).
So I took the car in to get it checked out they supposedly couldn't find anyting wrong and told me well it's still breaking in and thats normal just a protective coating burning off. Sounds like b.s. to me. How is something still burning off at 4k miles and 5 months? I've driven it on 10+ 2 hour drives. Oh well if the car catches on fire I have documentation I brought it in. |
