BRZ in snow

I'm in the DC area and we got about 1-2". This car has a hard time finding traction. I know the lightweight (and light distribution over the rear axle) doesn't add up for a snow driving machine, but I was pretty surprised how bad it drives in snow. The little 215s don't help much.

I'm in the NOVA area and i didn't even bother taking the car out today..hopped in the CUV and came into work....not worth taking the BRZ out in the snow (unless snow tires are installed).

Improper title. It's a thread about your tires.
I'm actually enjoying driving this car in the snow/slush, on proper tires. When there's noone around I also turn aids off, and this car is very easy to control if you're somewhat smooth.

It probably doesn't make sense to get winter tires in DC, but a good set of all-seasons during winter months will make a lot of difference.

Skinny tires do better in snow than wide tires. And why are you driving this car in the snow w/o snow tires?

I've seen your past machines and your build threads; how much are you trolling us right now? ;-)

here is my comment on another thread of another guy pretty much saying the same thing as you. He was driving in snow with summer tires:

"You're walking in snow bare feet, and you're wondering why your feet are so cold?"

Summer tires don't grip well when it's cold, and they barely grip at all in snow/ice.

Sorry - Just sharing an observation. I've driven all my other cars with summer tires in snow (less than 3"). I was just surprised how bad the car has to fight for traction.

I drove the sister to your car this morning. No issues observed, summer tires with 7/32nds thread. Just once when I got to work and decided to gain speed quickly after a turn.

No worries. The Primacy tires are particularly slippery in the snow

Tirerack.com suggests putting 16" tires on if you're going to get a snow set to help. Buy a set of four and some cheap rims and just throw them on for 3 months out of the year if you live anywhere north. And don't forget to throw some weight in the trunk for added grip.
