Cusco catch can install diagram
I know this looks like the writings of a mad man but a member asked for clarification on hookups.

^^ I wish you hadn't posted this confusing mess^^
That first pic shows the catch can between the front crankcase vent to the intake, which is a relatively insignificant blow-by gas source (as low as 10% of total blow-by) compared to the PCV valve. I have researched the purpose of the catch can thoroughly. The second pic vents the same front crankcase outlet to the atmosphere, thereby eliminating the closed system, fouling emissions etc.. Neither of these configurations are intercepting the blow-by from the PCV, the main source. So much misinformation out there.

The second pic was taken by a Subaru tech from another forum Not my pics, eveyone seems to have their own opinions to how this should be installed, none of which are mine... Another opinion that has yet to be mentioned, states that the Cusco oil catch can is useless in it's design period, again not my opinion

I keep asking for opinions of the real mechanics out here but nobody replies. So, did all the research I could online and I'm pretty sure the can goes between the PCV and the intake manifold on this car. See the Radium can install DIY as well.

No noise from the can. Nice bling with the Cusco unit, butcan't confirm effectiveness until spring when the car comes out of the garage.

The PCV is used to collect unused gas vapors that did not get burned in combustion. The vapors collect in the crank casing and do nothing so the PCV valve pulls a vacuum to remove the vapors to send it back into the combustion chamber to be burned. So if you just connect the catch can to the PCV's and not the to the intake then you will have no vacuum to pull the vapors out and the can is pointless.

It's primary function is recirculate or otherwise relieve the pressure buildup that can occur in the crankcase. Suspended oil particulate as well as fuel and water vapor can be extracted from the blow-by using a catch can. Normally blow-by is piped back to the intake to be burned off but the catch can with a proper baffle should be able to extract much of this material from the air so the intake has minimal oil exposure and maintains a cleaner condition. How's that?
