Has lines and overall shape that remind me of the BMW 1 series. Not in a good way. :\

hideous.

the only GM vehicle i would own is a corvette, looks like ill be keeping that mindset for awhile if this thing is released. It could have the best handling and balance and powerplant and i still couldnt drive something so ugly.

Too damn tall! Take about a 4" channel out of it's midsection. I.e., lower the hood/fenders/trunk and the roof about 4".

Would be cool if the build it in any case. Can't have enough smaller, hopefully reasonably lightweight rwd cars on the market as far as I'm concerned.

Agree with you for the most part, but you do realize that engineering resources/talent at big auto companies are pretty much on level ground. It's not like domestic engineering is shit compared to import engineering and vice versa. It's all a game of compromises (profit/loss) and production efficiency. It's like the people that argue over the superior components of Apple over other PC makers. The shit all comes from the same place.. I'm a computer/tech geek btw. (;

GM seems to think that the beltline should be just under eye level. It makes their cars look like overfilled bathtubs, and their drivers look like they are trying to hide under the sill. Wretched designs.

Oh, and stiffen the damn body/suspension. My Cobalt SS had so much body roll, both doors were rubbing the paint off the frame and itself in the corners.
A parts bin car is exactly how GM can fail at this.

It's exactly what makes the FR-S so great, everything was designed from the ground up for ONE car.

Competition is always good. I'm sure the next MX-5 Miata will be a great car because it now has to compete with the FR-S/BRZ. And who knows, maybe GM will make a competent car that'll make Toyota and Subaru continually raise their game.

I saw the 130R design in person at NAIAS last year. Honestly, it looks better in these pictures than it does in person in my opinion. I was not a fan.

However, if they take the ATS turbo four and put it into a chassis that is less than 3000LB it will definitely be a performance car contender. Anyone one who thinks that GM is incapable of building a great sports car is wearing blinders. I love my Japanese imports as much as anyone but I will not sell Chevy and Ford short.

Weight seems to be the one area the US car makers cannot or will not overcome. If they get a handle on that then they can build a world beater sports car.

Chevy had this "Code 130R" concept at Detroit NAIAS last year. It doesn't look too bad, particularly when compared to a almost anything else they make. The three box design reminds me of a E30 or 510 - which is a good thing.
Will GM screw it up? Absolutely. But the idea is cool.

The point of making a FR-S contender only has to meet 2 requirement, cheap and light RWD. Anything else wouldn't really be a contender, chevrolet knows how to make great performance cars, the camaro and corvette are great examples.

Japanese have a great legacy behind, domestic have their muscle car legacy..and it still shows today in their lineups.

Can anyone name a great light RWD car that a domestic manufacturer made? I'm thinking fiero. Was it great? I never drove one.
