For those with the tune. I finished installing the unichip. I have an injen intake, and I went for a drive around the area. Not sure if I was expecting magic or something but I'm a little underwhelmed. It is possible that I need to try a different map but I unfortunately did not get the cables with my unichip/flux 2. Jack said he will get this fixed tomorrow morning. Guys with the unichip can you tell me what you are feeling.

Kinda. I don't want to say much publicly because I don't want the wrong impression to be said. I'm chatting with unichip jack right now.

So just as a reply to my own comments unichip's customer service is just flat awesome. Just spent the last 30 mins in phone with Jack. Great guy. I have a few tests to run on the car either later tonight or tomorrow. And we will see how things go.

I've noticed a change in the way my car performs. I have a stock dyno sheet I can use to compare, but it wont be on the same dyno. I'll see if I can get to the local dyno today, if they have any openings

Jack!

>>
We got a couple of calls about changing the screen maps names in the Flux2 Display… there is a cable you can connect and use Hyperterminal to make the names whatever you want. When we ship a Display, it normally just says Map 1, Map 2, etc… since we don’t always know what guys are going to load where. We can certainly program custom names if desired… just let us know. If you want to program it yourself, here's a link to the cable... http://www.unichip.us/products/42-Flux-Download-Cable.
<<

To questions/issues:

1) With the Flux2, and USB cable plugged in to back of the Flux2, and HyperTerminal running on COM4 at 115,200 8-N-1, all I see is gibberish. When I hit the space bar, type 'help' or 'menu' or whatever it says command not recognized, etc. When I use the prior purchased map download cable plugged into the Unichip itself, I don't have success with the serial connectivity.

2) With the Flux2, and USB cable plugged in to the back of the Flux 2, and mapping software loaded, it shows intermittent serial connectivity and therefore I can not remap the Unichip. However, when using the prior purchased map download cable plugged into the Unichip itself, I have great success (no issues) with mapping the Unichip.

Please advise how I can change the names of the display via 1).

Please advise why I am having the issues with USB-IN-CAR via Flux2 versus directly plugged in - success.

Otherwise, no issues with Flux2! Besides it being bulky, I custom mounted it and it works great!

Thanks!

Brian

#1 = Solved. Was stupid and didn't read the instructions on the link Jack provided. Now I have the LCD displaying the names that I want, programmed using the USB IN-CAR-TO-FLUX2 cable.

#2 = Needs Solving Still.

I'll have to talk with our SW engineer about #2... but normally computers aren’t happy begin reprogrammed while they’re also working… if the OE ECU is powered up, it’s talking to the Flux2 which is talking to the Unichip.

Everything should be fine if you unplug the PnP's Unichip 24-pin connector when you want to program it.

As for the working in Hyperterminal, it’s a pretty low level communication and doesn’t have many functions like “help.” There are some basic capabilities, but if you do anything else, you get “Unrecognized Command.” You can find lots of stuff on line about using Hyperterminal if you’re not familiar with it.

A handy tip if you don’t use Hyperterminal that will make reading text easier… in the Properties tab during set up, select ASCII Set Up and check the box next to Append line feeds to incoming line ends.” If you don’t, you’re always typing on the first line and new text appears on top of old text which gets funky.

Windows 8 32-Bit doesn't have HyperTerminal so I ended up using an old copy of SecureCRT. It was enough for me to enter the commands to see what's programmed, to change it, to verify it, and see enough - on one line. Couldn't figure out the ASCII feed lines equivalent, but I got the job done!

#2

More of a "why" question than anything else. I was able to program it via the old cable without issues. However, for those just with the Flux2 kit and the Flux2 download cable - I'd wonder if that would work like the other cable because the other cable has an ON/OFF switch. I entirely like having to program stuff in the car as I've stowed the USB cable hidden under a center console panel and when I need to use it, I just quickly fish it out.

Regarding #2 and in reading the Flux2 install guide, the in car USB cable is used for programming the names only. The separate usb cable with on off switch programs the Unichip plugged direct. Therefore what I did is right.

Oh and the two cable pinning is different in regards to less wires with same connector for Flux2.

Well finally figured out what was going on. My damn injen intake was causing my problems. So I'm not nuts. It looks like when I installed the unichip something might have gotten loose on the intake. I retightened everything and things are running great. Thanks jack for the help.
