Leasing a new FR-S
So I am leasing a FR-S from my local dealer, who is a good friend of mine. They are giving me a sweet deal on a car they special ordered a couple of months ago. It just so happens to be a color I love, Whiteout, otherwise I was going to order one from scratch.
I am getting a good monthly payment of $289 a month, for 36 months, with 20,000 miles a year, only $1999 down. I was really happy because with this good of a deal on the table right now I didn't have to worry about the payment changing in a month or two, because I don't have to order a car and wait. But, there is one thing that is almost making me second guess doing the deal. The only thing that made me a little weary about taking the car they had was it has 120 miles on it, but it is still considered brand new. The dealer said that it has only been test driven by Scion dealer employees, with only serious Scion customers riding as the passenger, they apparently have an automatic Ultramarine FR-S that anyone can drive as there demo. The Whiteout FR-S is a manual transmission. Should I be weary about taking it with 120 miles on it? Or, is it not that big of a deal? I would definitely not take it if I was buying it but I am leasing the car. What do you guys think?

Personally, I think that 120 miles isn't really a big deal. With the price and down it's a steal really...I put $2100 down and my payments are $545 a month (not leased but still, you're getting a great deal!)

That's what I was thinking with a deal like this I really cannot complain. The real deal breaker for me with my cars is the front license plate holder being drilled or glued on, and this one did not have either. I would rather get pulled over with it looking clean, lol! Thanks

Why do you want to lease?
By the time your lease is over, you would have paid for half the car. |

This car lends itself to customization. Pretty sure you can't if you lease (unless you plan to buy out the lease at the end). Not that you can't enjoy the car from the factory, but, it is nice to leave your options open.

What is your sales tax and registration? Do you know your money factor and residual as well? Last time i checked there was no support from toyota financial so mf is toyota standard at 0.0018 or 4.32% fot tier 1+. Normally purchasing could be cheaper for a car under 30k. At least you are not ladden with extra acquisition fees.

Damn, this is good news to me cuz I'll be headed the lease direction as well. Payments sounds like it comes up better than when u mess around with the lease calculator on scion.com.
As far as the 120 miles go...look at it this way...that's like 3 or 4 test drives and pdi depending on their test drive route. It's nothing. |

I wouldn't worry about the mileage. I got mine with 157 miles on the odometer but that's because they had to drive it an hour and a half to the dealer I was getting the car at. I also had little to no choice since I totaled my last car and needed something ASAP. If I had the time I would of ordered one but rental cars at $30 a day would of put me steep in the hole if I had to wait two months because I didn't wanna take something with a little miles on it. I'm OCD like crazy but it's a car and it's meant to be driven so I just gotta learn that not everything can be perfect.
Congrats on the purchase. |

I was in a similar situation. Leased my car June 14th with 144 miles. If I put a few grand down and buy the car after the lease, Ill only pay about a grand more in the end.
You can still do mods as long as you can return it to oem before you give it back. So just keep your old parts, not that hard. Personally, Ill be buying after the lease and Im doing mods, but still have my OEM parts just in case.
